I know the 3 torx screws hold the tilt part of the column guts tight.

But are there other screws that will stop the column from turning. Check out this video.

Will the lower 4 reverse torx screws fix this?

I'm tempted to say that the bolts that mount the column to the mounting bracket are loose, but I wouldn't think there would be so much play there. That makes me want to say that the 4 reverse torx bolts are loose. Those are actually what causes a loose tilt section. Maybe yours are all 4 slightly loose?? As in no play in the tilt except for the rotational??

Yeah, I'm just trying to talk myself out of pulling the column apart.

Anyone know the threads on the two flush mount pins down inside the column?

have a feeling your column might be bent like mine was and the plate is moving around where the 4 inverted torx goes that have loosened up. repairable yes! I did mine and it is so much nicer to drive now.

not that bad honestly good 4 hrs worth of work if i had to do it again maybe less just takes time and patience (i like this part).

Ordered the pin puller and I'm taking my tools up to the lake house to work on it over spring break.

Well, I got the column torn down. Bad news is the screws were tight. I guess I'll look at the linkage going to the trans and see if there is play there.

I really didn't think they were loose. If you look in this video you can clearly see the different type of movement in the column when compared to mine.

but is the plate the screws go into in the actual column correctly is the next ? IF not you will get that type of play. Undo your steering shaft and transmission linkage then see if play is still there. I think your going to have to go as far as I did on my column.

Wouldn't you know it!!

I was putting the column back together and saw this spring clip hanging below the center section.

Anyone know where it goes? I think it's called the rack preload spring.

Yup, got it in place. Took a little messing around to figure out where it went. Bottom half is put back together.

Thanks for the help!

And thanks for the PDF file!!

You know if it comes apart and the column turns your wires are toast? Best to tear it apart and fix it right away. Been there.
