Just a quick question here, but I replaced the injectors on my 88 Suburban a few weeks ago. It's been running damn good, but today it wouldn't idle for crap. It was puffing out black smoke and it tried to die a couple of times as well.

Anywhoo, I found out the the drivers side injector is leaking around the top and flooding out the engine. It even leaks out when I disconnected it and had my wife start it. That's a symptom of a faulty O-ring right? I'm hoping it's not a faulty injector but since I disconnected it and it still dribbled out, I kinda doubt it.

Sorry if this sounds noobish, but I've gone through hell with this truck this summer and I'm kind of paranoid right now.

Pull the injector pod and change the rubber oring and metal oring.

If the injector is leaking from the top you have an oring/backup ring issue. Every time you take the injector pod apart you most likely will damage the gasket but you must have damaged your top oring on install.

If you do need an injector hit up the junkyard(~$5 here). They are $50-80 remanufactured. You can test them in the junkyard with a 9V battery. Just touch the battery to the injector connector pins and if the injector clicks the solenoid is good. You can't see the nozzle without taking them apart but if you have a good spray cone (use a timing light) its good to go. If you pull the injector pod apart in the junkyard and its all nasty in there leave it and keep looking. The part number is stamped in the top of the injector.

Put some type of lube on them.

Well, after reading this I went and hunted down the instruction pamphlet for the injectors. One of these days I'm gonna learn not to just dive in and do a project, but actually read the damn instructions.

So I'm off to get new O-rings for both injectors and I will lube them up before I install them.......:o

Thanks for all the replies guys. Now I need a good slappin'.
