Quick Throttle Cable Question.

So i have installed Bowtie Overdrives TV MADE EZ kit. upon connecting the throttle cable i realized it is slightly to long. The W.O.T. at pedal dose not match W.O.T. at TBI. Honestly i think it has slightly been off for awhile however the kit seems to have exaggerated the difference.

Any way i want to simply shorten it up a little and put it back in spec however i am not familiar with this. It looks as if the end is simply a ring terminal? Is there something special about it and can i buy it at a parts store? What is it called? Maybe something else you recommend to use for an end?

Or better yet is there a way to shorten the cable slack from the inside?

If I remember right, the cable ends with a crimped on piece at the throttle pedal. Only way to shorten it would be to crimp on another piece. This should shorten it and do it safely. Find out what size the cable is and go into your best few hardware stores and ask.

Home Depot has small cable clamps, but I'm thinking of something more "fishing line sinker weight" looking.

ya you are right they are strange looking things to me. I have searched around on the internet and both methods of shortening the cable have come up. I guess there is a ring terminal piece that is specific for the other end but couldn't find no name, part number, or description.

I also like the method you described better as well tho cuz if it fails then at least i have just sloppy throttle rather than no throttle.

I've put some slotted washers between the pedal end of the cable and the plastic grommet dewhickey to take up slack on one truck I had..you could probably just bend the gas pedal'z "Z" link piece to accomplish the same thing--or maybe use one of those little brass "throttle stop screw" barrel bolt things on the cable like a choke cable uses,but you'd have to cut off the crimped end piece to use one..

Look at where the cable attaches at the pedal. Is it not a long arm that can easily be bent to correct this issue?

yes it is a long arm and can probably be bent but i was hoping as a last resort. The throw of the arm and the throw of the throttle bodie should be similar as so the pedal moves the throttle blades the correct distance. However since i simply moved the cable sleeve mounting location forward at the TBI i need to slightly shorten just the cable and that should keep the same ratio. Just my thoughts tho so that is why i am posting to get feedback before i screw something up. i like the idea of the "throttle stop screws" i can probably get one that goes over the tiny stop at the end too? i will be able to play with it more this weekend.

This is what the throttle stop screw looks like :...the largest ones I've seen that have about a 1/4" hole for the cable,were used on old air cooled VW's heater control cables...most have tiny holes more like 1/16" or less for choke and throttle control and PTO cables..

Gas pedals get bent over time. Mine was. Just bend it back.
