This is one of those rare 1500 crewcabs, do you guys think I could tow my 82 long bed safely to Moab with proper trailer brakes and a module?. This would be about once a year and maybe to California as well. The 82 will be a driver but I want the option to tow on long trips.

I would most likely do a 14bolt semi float upgrade.

What benefit does a 1500 crew cab have if you swap in a 14 bolt?

Why not start with a 2500 or 3500?

Curious

My gut feeling says no. That is a 6 lug 1500, with the 4l60, probably 3.73's, and 1/2 ton springs.

It won't be happy towing a full size.

The price is right and it's clean. Few people have said it would be fine with a trip a year.

I agree on the 2500 or 3500 and yes it does have the 5.7

Granted, mine was a short wheelbase, but i had a 1/2 ton blazer of that generation. I put a ton of towing miles on it, with a boat that was probably 4500lbs.

I wouldn't even think of towing a full size. Springs are too soft, brakes are small, etc.

There are some solid deals on some 2500 burb's out there. Don't forget those in your searches.

I'd wait for the right truck.

tow capacity is what, 5500lbs?

Maybe across town with good trailer brakes but I wouldn't take it out on the freeway.

This would be a twice a year trip across the highway if I'm lucky. I have had 2 1500's and the springs sagged on both.

The truck was sent out for the crew cab conversion to be done. Not sure if it was a dealer thing or a customer added deal after bought. I would assume it was after the purchase.

Didn't take a look on it, I'm going to pass on it. It is a great deal for someone else, :waytogo:

I read today, that they stretched the frame under the cab.

Looked good... but yeah if you want to tow you need a 3/4 ton.
That would do it but the trans ect wouldn't like it for long.

I agree, once I started looking up specs, I ran away. Going by the fact that I made multiple trucks springs sag on a 1500 I need a 2500. Even though I don't tow that much but when I do it makes a 1500 cry.

I love watching the guys with the new 1/2 ton hemi Dodges towing on the bump stops! :doah::haha:

Having a tow rig that doubles as a daily driver is kind of like having an capable trail rig that doubles as a daily driver :D

I drive a 3/4 ton crew cab and definitely notice the difference in gas versus my 1/2 ton extended cab. I like driving it, but would hate to have to put a bunch of miles on it.
