how hot can i weld before melting a hole in my 14b axle tubes?? im welding on these

14 bolt tubes are .500" thick until the edges where they taper down to .375" I believe.

You won't burn through them welding those on but its a good idea to take the weight off the axle and take your time to keep from warping the housing.

What rod? You should have a professional weld on your suspension.

What are those brackets for?

Being a noob welder, (I'm the best welder on my street:haha:) what is the reason to take the weight off the axles when welding something like those on? Would youjack the frame and let the axles just hang in the air?

its just a anti-wrap bar so its not life or death. im still running leafs. im welding with a 7011 rod

It should say on the rod package what the amp range is. 1/8" is usually 75-185. Practice first.

I'm certainly not a professional welder either (hence I let someone more experienced than myself weld up my link brackets and the main supports of my chassis) but my theory is that without weight on it, the axle will be less likely to warp. If you get the housing really hot from welding it might want to bow up into a "smiley face" under a couple thousand pounds of weight. I just figure that's a really easy thing to do to take weight off of the axle, and yes, I meant just jack up the frame and put it on stands and let the axle hang.
