My truck has been torn apart for months and its time to hookup the electrical. For the life of me I can not find the "starter energizer" the one that is hot only when the key is turned to cranking.

Any idea what color, location exc...

I have a 77K5

Thanks

No harness down to the starter, that is the problem.

OK so I found my ignition switch on the top of my column. It has the rod from the ignition lock cylinder go into it.

It has 2 connectors each with 3 wires. None of the wires are only hot during crank position. Both the purple and two red wires are just always hot. Orange, Pink and Brown hot when the key is in run. None of them only hot during crank......

???

So if I test the continuity on the switch, the blade that connects to purple should have continuity with one of the two blades that connect to red (always hot) only when the key is in crank. This sound right?

If the purple blade always has continuity to one of the reds then the switch is just letting power threw all the time. Correct?

Thanks for the help.

Good News Bad News...

Tested the switch and in the run purple blade does not have continuity with either red. It does have continuity when the switch is in crank though. Switch is good.

I took the Ohm meeter to the wires though and one of the red (always hot) has continuity with the purple wire!!!! Tons of resistance but it has continuity. The purple and red wire must be shorted together somewhere.

Wish me luck!

Ya neutral switch is good. Traced the wire and it looks like it is shorting to ground somewhere behind the fuse block. Cut the purple starter wire just before it goes into the block and ran a new one to the starter. All is good!
