Last night I was stopped in front of my driveway waiting to turn in when some ***hole texting while driving hit my at nearly 50 mph.
Right rear rim and tire were destroyed, frame is bent under the cab, a Johnny Joint and an F911 bolt were sheared as well as bending my H072.

The good.
I was alone and no major injuries.
All my welds, brackets and crossmembers survived with zero damage.
I'll have to build another truck, combining Odin and my crewcab. I'm thinking a short crew with tube bed.
The new build will have to wait till I'm up to it. Physically and financially.

way, way uncool Vin.... that sucks... glad your ok...

Glad you ok man, really sucks about the truck though.....

thats whats great about nofault in MI, you get focked by your own insurance co. instead of waiting for someone elses to do it for you.

Good luck with your financial recovery.

Damn Vinny that sucks !!! Sorry to hear that, it was a sweet rig .
So, rear ended huh............sounds lot a lot of pain and suffering to me, not to mention emotional stress from losing a truck which you devoted countless hours of your life into :wink1:.

Wow!

Sorry to hear that Vinny! That was a very sweet truck. At least you or your family weren't hurt (that's big). Make the as*hole pay!

I can't believe you were inches from safety
not like a tree can't land on it, but still
gezz

Make him pay. I am not a sue happy person but come on dude was texting. Bring on the lawyers

Sorry to hear about the truck, good to hear you are ok

That sucks!

I just about got the same thing yesterday. Guy coming up behind me doing all of 55 on black ice opted for the ditch. I made my turn and stopped, made sure he was OK. Got a tow truck on the way for him and off I went. Not much more I could do with the ice on the ground and traffic as it was.

In comparison, I was much luckier than you.

That truly sucks, but it sounds like your truck did its job and kept you safe.
You can't ask for any better than that.

One thing to think about for next time....

I have a 20 cantilever rolling gate at my farm. Few years back, a guy pulling out turned a little too sharp and snagged the end of my gate with his trailer axle.
Bent the heck out of it.

His trailer was fine. He apologized and offered to pay for it, but he was good guy, and I had wanted to upgrade the gate for a while anyway, so I told him to forget it.

Just to be careful next time, because it might get expensive.

When I went back with a much heavier gate, I sunk 4 18 foot pieces of railroad track 8 feet in the ground in concrete around the gate.
Now, when it is all the way back, it is recessed behind the railroad iron.

Bout 4 months later, the same guy, with the same trailer, cut it too close.
Again.
Wheel snagged the railroad iron instead of the gate. Sheered both spring shackles on that side, bent the axle in almost a 90 degree bend, and bent the rim on that side.

Railroad iron did not even notice. While he was calling someone with a bigger trailer to come get his, I reminded him that I had said it was going to get expensive.

Just something to think about when you are building your replacement truck....If they are going to hit your truck, make them PAY.

Damn, that really sucks!
I've been there myself, I got rearended by a Mercedes, when I was driving my 2500.
I had to cut the frame behind the cab and replace the rear section, but I got well paid from his insurance company for it.

Were you injured?
It's really common with whiplash injuries in this type of collision.
But the symptoms oftenly doesn't appear until later, so if you haven't already,
you should seek out a doctor and make them document your neck mobility now, in case it gets worse later on.

Man that sucks! Very glad you are ok. not exactly great this happened before christmas, but atleast nobody was hurt.

Major bummer man, sorry to hear that. I know even though it's great your are OK, it's much worse when you have a lot of time spent on a project and someone else ruins it. Good luck, I hope you get compensated for everything it's worth, including all of your time.

Sorry to hear about your truck, but at least you were not injured or killed...

This is what sucks about spending a lot of money and more so,TIME,building a vehicle the way you wanted it,countless yours of your time and efforts are wiped away in a matter of seconds---insurance might cover the material losses, but you cant get those moments of your life back, nor all your hard work..
It is not fair that some jerkoff texting ruined your truck and could have killed you--most likely they will get off with a slap on the wrist too...I am not a "sue-happy" person, but beleive me,when one of these people hit me (and I am certian it'll be WHEN and not "IF" ,the way people drive here with cell phones glued to their ears~),I will be first in line at the lawyers office and courtroom seeking damages and hopefully get them imprisoned for their stupidity...

I know a guy who lost his son to some jerk texting while driving..so far the kid who hit and killed him is still out on the roads, while he is awaiting his trial, they didn't even pull his license!..--maybe by 2014 they'll get around to finally getting him before a jury.....and the kid fled the scene and tried to hide his car ,if not for evidence left at the scene, the cops would not have found out who did it...

Sorry to hear, it sucks that people think they have to be on there phones while driving. You don't wanna know how many idiots in my town wreck there cars from it. But glad you got away safely
