Apparently I've been living under a rock....

Went to recharge the system in my '93 S10 Blazer today, something I been meaning to do for a while. Living here in Washington State, a/c is never on a list of priorities, as it only get really hot for a short time. Stopped by O'Reilly's, and learned of the ban. They said the farm or ag stores still sell it, but my local options were all out. Harbor Freight might stock it too but there was none at my local store. Amazon won't ship it to my address.

So they are transitioning to r1234yf. The can was like $140. Not sure the compatibility either.

So the only way to recharge my AC it's to take it to a shop? I know that most shops won't touch my truck because it used to be r12.

How are other states handling this?

I was in O'Reilly's with my former BIL who works there and they were commenting on the price of R134. one guy had just got off a week vacation and he said before he left it was 12.99 a can and now it is 16.99 a can. said a couple of months ago it was 8.99. then we went to Walmart where it was 8.88 a can and I bought a case of it. might go get another.

In PA we are still buying R134a in 30lb containers at work, local parts stores still have it as well in the small cans…AFAIK there is no compatibility between the two and r1234yf is expensive and fammmable

If gas wasn’t so expensive you could just drive up to my shop and we could charge it , but with gas prices it would probably be a wash .

They are already planning to phase out 1234. Nothing to do with environment. Just govt officials getting rich. Over and over. It's all BS. When they stopped r12, anyone could go to parts store, buy 134 and do it in the parking lot. Shit leaking everywhere. Pro shops had to take classes and tests, record usage, spend thousands on new equipment. Same scenario with 1234. Makes my head spin. Just like emissions. Let's put a put an engine driven pump on an engine to push air into the exhaust, reducing percentage of pillutants. In reality, more energy consumed, no reduction in pollutants. It's alk a game. Everything they touch is shit.

I better get out and look for some...all my cars use 134A, all my AC gear is R12 and 134A

It's a WA state thing and you can thank our wonderful, benevolent governor Jay "Shitbag" Inslee for the tightening up on refrigerants. I had to order from Ebay and Amazon to get what I needed to fix the A/C in my Silverado.

134 always sucked. WA state laws have sucked for a long time. Hydrocarbons will be hard to legislate out and have always worked better anyway...

The yf-1234 crap is NOT compatible with any older systems. It is flammable as well. The price is insanely higher than anything short of R12 if you could find some.

It’s crap for sure.
