I'm looking into converting my ac to the r134a for the future. What would I need? Would I need to replace everything?

Best thing IMO, is to get a new condensor, which will be a new style that will make the 134 colder. Then depending on who you talk to, you can either just pump it up with 134, or take the compressor off, dump out the oil, flush the lines, and put ester oil in it, and recharge, I have done it both ways. And also replace the drier.

My compressor is shot and the blower isn't doing much. Allthough those are pretty easy to replace. How much would be the condensor and what kind em I looking at?

Thanks Jason

I think the condensors are around the $120 range, and if you're compressor is shot, might as well flush all the lines while it's apart.

If the compressor has gone bad, there is a good possibility of having metal particles in all the lines. A good flush is highly recommended. New hoses would be a good thing to do, as well as the condensor as stated above. Most any new compressor will require a new drier and orifice as well for the warranty. Beyond that you will also need to have the system vacuumed to 19 inches to insure there is no moisture in the system. I recommend using PAG oil not the Ester oil, and use the type that comes in an aerosol type can not the pour in type stuff.

My compressor still works, but it leaks out the front and spews coolant all over my fenders.

What ever you do, do not by a reman compressor. Get a brand spankin NEW one. Cost a bit more, but will last 10 times longer. I see reman front seals leak almost like they left the bad seal when the remaned them.

I thought about buying the autozone 150 dollar one with the lifetime warranty. Sure beats the 375 bucks GM wanted WITH my discount.

Try Tri-City auto parts, They should be able to get you a new one, And they sell kits, that will come with everything you'll need.

For the cost of refilling the system over and over for the "lifetime" the added cost of the GM version is worth it. Just my opinion, but they are worth it.

Well, that is something I didn't know. In that situation go with the Autozone version, but as soon as you can save the money to get the GM version do it. Or go with a Napa new one, which will have a warranty. Regardless to get the warranty, you will have to do a drier, and an orifice tube at the minimum to get the warranty. Every one I have seen has required these two parts at a minimum so check first to make sure what the requirements are.

Ok cool, thanks for the tips.

It will be awhile until I can do anything. Most likely when I can afford it, it will be time for next summer :haha:

i don't think they offer the lifetime warranty on AC compressors, i think its only 1 year warranty. i have had to replace a few on 3 different gm vehicles. and i can tell you they have lasted about a year and a half, and they gone out, just enough to go out of warranty :(

Hmm thats weird, they showed me it on the computer and it was life time.

i'm not saying your wrong, they may have changed that warranty, and the last time i replaced one was probally 2.5-3 years ago. so maybe it is lifetime now. just an fyi :)

I am on unit number two from them . if this one goes bad , I am just going to replace the clutch on my original Harrison compressor , which is the only reason I bought a new compressor to begin with , a single clutch freeze .

Autozone is good for oil , brakes , and hand cleaner ONLY :deal:
