Racing/ speeding with your Blazer

90

Speedos inop, and stuck at 90. Does that count?

Can't get it up?
So, drop it in
gear.

Sparky, add tire size and I prob had a 2 something ratio. I had the redline set at 7200, and shifted at 7000 max on average. I dont recall what RPM I was at that nite it was 10 yrs ago. It was twisted up fairly tite tho.

BTW Forged crank rods and pistons, all balanced. To those doubting the 7200 redline. I had seen it above that only once, and it held together.

I've gotten my 350/sm465/3.08's with 31's up to 85 no prob many times its really about 90-95 I put the wrong speedo gear in when i replaced it during my t-case rebuild. Now I borrowed a buddy's 32 swamper radials and got them up to 95 next to a navigator a buddy was in...NEVER AGAIN! As soon as I got it that high I backed off for fear of blow outs

What? You think the hole is too deep? Lemme see...

OK by now it should be clear that I despise being called a liar!

Go to 4lo.com and punch in 38" tire size(true height of my 40 Hawgs on 10"wheel) 3.54 ratio, 1.0 transmission, and 1.0 transfer case, and finally 130 MPH. It comes up to 4069.1 RPM.

Then go to the speedo check and punch in 31" orig tire size, and 38" new tire size, Speedo reading 100. It comes up to 122.6 actual MPH. I was above 100 on my speedo.

Anyone care to argue w/ MATH!

I believe you. I had a built 401 in a 74 Wagoneer. It also had a unbelieveable top speed. It was a lot faster than I ever wanted to go in a 4x4 SCARY.
I'v had my Blazer over 100 a few times but I dont like to push it that hard. Going over 100mph is hard on a 4x4. Speed limits round here are 75. Most people dirve 85. I usually cruise around 75-80. 65 seems so damed slow.

I do between 95 and 100 sometimes going back and forth to school in my '95 Z. The 38's get to humming pretty loud. The governor cuts then engine out at 100 so I can't go over that.

What can be more stupid than driving a 3 ton Blazer at 100mph?

Taking a picture while driving!!!

Doing 130 plus in a slightly modified 83 Z28 and hitting a telephone pole. Been there done that. All 4 of us in the car walked away and were not wearing seat belts. I think God was with us that night.

let's see i only had my blazer running at it's limits 2 times that i can remember.
1st time was coming down a long hill following a freinds new toyata t 100 (yes, this was several years ago). i was on his a** the whole way down the hill. when we stopped a few miles down the road he said he had his toy floored and was over 100 mph.
2nd time was trying to pass some idiot in a car. every time i went to pass him he would speed up when i got next to him, so i would drop back behind him, only for him to slow down again. after 2-3 times doing this i kept the foot to the floor and we went at it (keep in mind this is on a one lane each direction highway). so here we are racing along with me in the on coming traffic lane doing around 90+. well he finally gave up and let me pass after i went onto the opposite shoulder, never letting up on gas pedal, to avoid on coming car.
i think i scared the s*it out of myself more than him

you are only young and stupid once, it's a good thing i lived and learned

oh then there was the time i had a toyata v6 ext cab going around 100mph. went across a bridge and the wind must have lifted the truck and put me in the other lane. i had to wipe myself after that one

4x4 trucks were not made to run high speeds. these days i keep it under 80 when driving a truck, now my ta is a differant story

I've had the K5 up to about 100, not interesting in taking it further until I have non-140,000 plus drivetrain. About 120 in an '80 Z-28 racin a crotch rocket, 110 in a Pinto (that takes balls!!!) and about 120 in the backseat of a cop car.

I street raced a civic and beat him miserably. Ive got 4.56 so it jumps off the line and has decent acceleration until 50 or so until it just loses its balls whatsoever. Ive hit 100 in it but after hitting a bump at that speed I'm about to do that again. I went 150 back when I had a 1994 Z28. That was fun.

My blazer (350 - 1985) pulls like hell from 75, goes off the clock fast...But a few wobbles makes me realize overtaking is not such aa ggood idea, anyway, I'd guess I'd get a ton from mine, and it smokes tires at lights too

61 on LBJ???? man I usually ended up hitting it when the max speed was like 25-30 that always sucked but guess that's why your supposed to avoid rush hours. (yes I meant the plural)

Like em big and topless
Excuse me...Would you mind removing your import from under my chevy?

Nick had his old blazer up to 98. He got pulled over. That's the fastest we know of that that blazer got up to. The speedo didn't work. Nick was surprised he was going that fast. The blazer I have now...80 is the fastest. LOL! I don't need to be going real fast in a big brick. The camaro has been up to 120 or 130.

Don't hit me, Mr. Moderator... I'll go back on topic... I swear!

I drive mine to work every day at around 75-77 mph and it does it no problem in overdrive, still get decent mileage, so one night I decide to see how fast it can actually go, well the old 305 seems to hit a wall at about 83-84 mph, don't know why, thats just all she had. It sure felt plenty fast in that truck tho, kind of floaty, no need to do much more than 75 anyways.

Now my 90 5.0 mustang on the other hand willingly buries the 140 mph speedo, which can be fun. :)

87 K5, all stock so far, except for some rust

Race the Blazer? WTF? I'm sure my 330hp with 31-10.5-15 and a 3.73 will get me over 100mph but what is the point in a Blazer?

Hit 135mph quickly in my '01 Maxima though!

I've had the K5 up to 92mph with plenty left... I didn't realize I was going that fast until I came across one of those "Your speed is" trailers on I-80. Oops.

The truck felt very stable at that speed. Wind was getting a little loud, though!

Back when I first got my blazer it had a healthy 355, th350 and 3.08's on 31's....

I was coming down the freeway one day and these two woman were flying in a TPI350 Trans Am. It looked pretty whooped, but she acted like she had the fastest thing on the street. So we came ot a long straight stretch with no side streets on it so I pulled up behind her. She started goign and I rode her ass... I saw her look back a few times like I was stupid then I saw the puff of smoke come out of her pipes and I got on it.. She couldn't pull on me and I actually had to let out! She moved over and I went passed her. She didn't look too happy! LOL
