Radar Detectors

What is a good radar detector? I was at Radio Shack today and saw a crappy one for 30 bucks and wondered if there is really a difference b/w that one and the one for 200 bucks. thanks for your input.

Yes there is a difference. Good brands? Whistler and Bell and Valentine one.

My Escort is about 15 years old and still works well.......on X and K band. New ones do that and a lot more, like laser........Escort has another smaller version I hear is excellent, named the Passport. See ads in Hot Rod all the time.......

I have a Valentine One and it is truly awesome. Sometimes the alerts are so far head you get to wonder if you ever going to get to it. You hsould look at it. I will warn you it is expensive probably the most expensive on the market, but worth it. http://www.valentineone.com

i agree,i think the radar detectors by valentine are the best,they are more money,but they are worth it!!!!!

I also have a Valentine. And I do agree about the far ahead warning. Actually the first day I had mine in I got a waring and it was saying the cop was behind me. I looked back and I could just barely make out a couple of dots in my rear view. So I slowed down and let them catch up. Well when they passed, the pack was lead by a State Trooper.
These Detectors are awsome!!!!!!!!!

I am going to buy a phantom Phazer it both jamms and detects and if you are going above (up to 15%) of the speed limit they pay your ticket for a couple of years. there $250-300 they do both lazer and radar.

I remeber about a year ago I saw a dectector that you hard wired into the system. You mounted the antenna/sensors on the grille and the head unit you could mount in the dash, where it is not obvious like other detectors. Does anyone know what I am talking about?
