SO I swapped in a 4 row radiator out of a big block 91 R3500. Th only upper radiator hose I can find that remotley fits is from a '90 v3500 w/ a 350 motor. The problem is the hose sits on top of my alternator. I'm afraid when the hose moved when off road, it will hit the alternator fan thingy. Any idea what hose I can use?

Can't help with the hose options, but did you twist the hose on the nipple(s) before tightening them, to gain clearance?

You can also "armor" hoses by taking a section of the same diameter of hose, splitting it lengthwise, and zip tying that section over where you need protection. In your case you could do this, and it would probably raise the hose up enough to keep it away from the alternator fan. If the twisting hose trick doesn't help.

OK , since your serpentine , look for a hose that comes off the waterneck , goes to the radiator on the otherside of the alternator , and then turns and runs next the radiator .

I had the same problem when I bought my 93 , someone used the wrong hose and it hit the alternator , and had a rub hole starting . Now I got a mixture of antifreeze and mud to clean :doah:

Use a hose like this for a 1993 with the larger radiator ( they list a smaller one ), with the 1993 sticking almost vertical water neck . Mine is from napa and the sticker says "7902 :thumb:

Thanks for the info. I'll go to Napa tomorrow.

My Blazer uses the same hose as Pauly's NBS truck. Here's a pic of mine:

I think someone put the wrong hose on your truck at some point... either that, or the PO was smart when he swapped a 4-core radiator into my truck, and found a proper-fitting hose:dunno: Anyway, it should do the job for you :wink1:

Are those stock small block shrouds? I installed the one from the big block and it has a big gap wher ethe fax is exposed?

Marc,

Try the upper hose from a 88 1 ton silverado with 454... I don't have a picture but in my old truck it completely missed the Alt. and was fine.

The BB shroud will be shorter because the engine is longer.

What he said. Go to your local friendly Chevy parts man and het a stock shroud for your truck. It should fit with some trimming - mine did :D
