ok so i have a 1987 3/4 ton 4x4 suburban with the 350. had a radiator leak so i went and pulled one out of an 86 suburban. i got them home and measured them, and the old radiator i pulled out is about 1.5 inches taller than the new one. this will work though right, i dont see any reason why not. i just want to know what is a good way to mount it? i dont want it catching air and sliding around when im driving. i want it to be secure. any ideas?

It will work, as mentioned go back and get the right mounts.

Obviously, if heat is a problem in your area, you may have problems with a smaller capacity radiator.

i third the mounts. don't wanna sidestep this. zipties don't work trust me. quick fix to a radiator problem turned into an hour fix. i don't take shortcuts anymore

well i was playin around on hills at the river round here and never thgouth nothing about it being in 4wd on the way back to camp. i was playin around in the sand (thinkin it was in 2hi) and gave it the gas then BOOM!! there she blew out the back. oops.
i had a spare radiator, battery, and front driveshaft at home so had the brother bring em to me. it was an alright weekend altogether. still have yet to put the front driveshaft back though

so you guys are saying the mounts and rubber are a must? okay well ill stick it in tomorrow, hook it up, and then go visit the junkyard again. i think someone might of taken the mounts though.. ill look around in other trucks. heat usually isnt an issue around here... we have probably 10 - 20 hot days a year. usually the temp stays around 65

You grabbed a standard duty radiator at the JY, while your truck had the heavy duty one installed. A brand new 3-row HD rad is only around $150 at Autozone, with a lifetime warranty. :cool1:

yeah.... thats what i was thinking. this radiator was free basically (i used my friend's store credit) and i figure if things dont work well with it then ill go for the HD one at autozone. ANYTHING would be better than my old radiator though.
