Radiator question-Whats this?

Kind of hard to tell on a blackberry, but aren't those the trans cooler line fittings?

No On a comp you can see one line in the middle and the 2nd is to low to be in the pic.

Im not for sure, but Im thinking the top one is for a fitting for a heater hose setup, not all engine have both heater hoses going to the engine some have one that go to the rad, and the lower fitting might be a drain plug for the trans fluid in the rad.

The very top arrow is for a thermal switch and the arrow below that is the top side of the tranny cooler and if you look further down there is another fitting just like that one. You obviously either have a manual trans or an external only trans cooler.

No, its a auto.It does have a external cooler. But it go`s into the rad (bottom small hose, not shown)then from rad to cooler (top small hose)then back to the trans(hose in front ot the overflow bottle).

Uhh ... I'd hafta go look at my diesel, but maybe an engine oil cooler in the radiator? IIRC my diesel has both tranny AND engine oil coolers running through there ... plumbing that thing was a PITA.

God only knows what the PO`s how done to her.. :(

Well is a diesel rad better? The temp gauge has only got to the half mark a few times after driving 55 for over 15mins.Then it went right back down to a 1/4.Then I flushed it and it hasn't hit the half mark since.

Hey Dremu,if you find out do you think I could hook up an oil cooler too?
Or its not worth it?

I don't know that the diesel ones are any bigger. They're more expensive, IIRC, prolly 'cuz there are so many more gassers than diesels.

If you're running a gas motor and are that worried about cooling the oil, I'd get an external setup from Summit or something, unless you know more about the radiator than I do :D

diesel rad and no one has hit it 100% yet.

top big plug is for newer cooling system routing of heater hose.

and look in pics he has tranny cooler hooked up already. that fitting i think is for a temp sensor for some option as its not in line with the cooler ports.

and those rads are 4 core and wider than std gas rads.

Oh well , doesnt matter. It hasnt hit the half way mark since I flushed it.
So it works fine.
I have a trans temp gauge , just need to find the fitting to hook
it to the trans....
