I picked up a used/reconditioned Cobra 29 LTD ST, mfg. July '98 according to the tag.
I've used it with a Wilson Lil' Will mag mount on my street pickup and with twins and a single mirror mount when I was driving a big rig. I got the radio from the CB shop near Frontier City (East side of I-35) in Ok. City and the Wilson from a CB shop in Tusla. The guy in Ok. City checked it on his bench before I left and the guy in Tulsa used his SWR meter to tune the Wilson to gnat's a**. Reception has never been better than about a 1/4 mile.
From what I've read in the various posts here, I am wondering if it is/was a ground problem. Anybody got any ideas?
