Hey all. I have a 1997 2D 4x4 GMC Yukon. The radio is really fuzzy and its to the point that i dont even want to listen to it anymore. It sucks though b/c i cant even use my ipod hook up that plays through an empty radio station because the sound is so annoying! And also the static gets louder and pulsates with the rpms of the engine. Im at a total loss here. anyone else have this problem? oh and the ipod hook up works fine through my 1975 Blazer.

It could be the alternator or an ignition problem (broken or partially disconnected plug wires). It's pretty common for the alternator to cause this when then the diodes go bad. Pop the drive belt off, start the truck and see if it went away. Just don't run it very long if that means your water pump isn't turning either.

Usually the alternator going bad. I second throttleissues on this one.

Thanks a lot guys. Ill check it out friday when im off work and fill you in.

You may also want to check and make sure you have clean ground.

I tried a ton of stuff then I ran a wire from the negitive on the batt to a tubular support in the dash. everything worked better after that even the dash lights, and my noise went away.

I have seen the same problem on 2 other 97 GM trucks. May just be a extreme coincidence or in 97 they had a faulty ground from the factory that year.

How are the spark plug wires? I've seen and had old/failing spark plug wires result in radio interference.

Ill have to chase the ground and see how that is. The alternator is not the problem. The spark plug wires look fine, I dont know if they are stock though.

if you have a power wire crossing ANY speaker wire where theres poor wire insulation. you can have exactly that sound you describe. I've heard it myself. I know exactly what you mean. but cannot guarrontee thats your problem though.
