Considering options to get to 17’s, and entertaining idea of steelies with stock rally center caps. In my head it should be as easy as drilling holes to screw in/attach the center caps. Anybody successfully done this?

I've done it before. Make sure the holes will hit good metal. Drill and tap. Good to go.
Do you have pictures? Of results?
The part im struggling with on the 17” wheels is the backspacing/offset is much deeper for modern trucks, so it would tuck wheels in, requiring a spacer.
