Ram 2500 Steering

That won’t do much except hurt the dealers score.

The dealership was recently sold and the guys that run it now are people I I’ve know almost my entire life. I went to school with one of them and they got their stuff together and are working to improve the dealership.
I believe the service there is going to improve over the coming years but I don’t think they have the service department reeled in yet.
That said I was careful to give them high scores and directed my dissatisfaction toward the design of the steering.

Well I took it to the dealership and told them to fix it or just sell it for me.
I can’t stand to drive it anymore.
I can tolerate it when I drive it empty but two weeks ago I hooked up my 20’ tilt trailer with my lawnmower on the front.
The first time I went around a curve on my narrow road I live on and had to fight the wheel to keep it out of the ditch I was pissed off past my limit.

They called a couple days later and said their putting a gearbox on it.
I told them I had done my research and that is NOT going to help.
I told them the problem lies in the software that controls the adaptive steering and until the factory fixes that, nothing else will matter.

I talked to a guy that owns a Ram dealership in Wisconsin and is a real truck guy.
He said the problem is in the adaptive steering and that there is a setting to change on the display to make it drive like I want it to.
I told him I tried that and couldn’t find it.
He got back to me and said I was right. That setting is not available on my truck.
He went to a conference in Orlando and questioned some Ram factory people about it.
What he found out was that there is no plan to fix the software.

I also posted on the Ram Owners Forum and got the same thing about the software although it was in favor of the software being how it is saying that it is that way to give more control at slower speeds which of course just pissed me off all over again.

Stories like this make me not want to buy brand new, like ever.

I’m sure it would void the warranty but I wonder if something like efi live could make the adjustment you’re looking for.

To that point, can the fuse be pulled to disable the system? That would help confirm the diagnosis. Loving my ‘03 ram!

I hadn’t thought of that.

I gotta say I do love the rest of the truck.
Lots of incredible features.
It’s just that the way it drives is such an important factor I can’t settle with this level of dissatisfaction.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have a new truck. They come with 90% of the stuff I’ve done to my 03.
But how they drive and all the potential issues they can have is crazy.

Plus the payment is damn near a mortgage payment

Damn I had no idea these trucks have that mess. I have not been in a 2021 yet to see how it feels.
I'd definitely be returning it if it's as bad as you're saying.

Well I’ll admit that most people would drive it down the road and think I’m just being an asshole.

The way it drives just riding down the road empty isn’t enough for most people to even notice. It’s just so different from what I’m used to with these trucks that I hate it.

I think though that anyone would be freaked out when it gets in one of those situations where it really freaks me out going around a curve.

My brother drove it a couple weeks ago and he noticed that it’s not just that the steering feels loose but it’s actually a delayed reaction. When you start turning the wheel there is a microseconds delay both making the turn and then returning the wheel back to straight.
He was on a narrow curvy road where it is most obvious.

That's the reason I don't buy trucks past certain years, even semi trucks.
They have so much of that shit now not only do I hate how it feels, I don't trust that it won't fail and cause an accident.
I drove my 2001 freightliner for 7 years with no breakdown.
I had 4 breakdowns in less than a year on my 2012 all in emissions.

Update:
3 weeks at the dealership and no change.

The General Manager which I have known since 7th grade (for me and 2nd grade for him) met me when I picked it up and told me he drove it and saw what I was talking about and that it is fixed. He also said that if I'm not happy with it he will come get it and they will work on it until it is fixed.

These guys were good enough to sell me this truck for $100 over invoice and now a year later it is worth $10k more than I paid for it.

I know they are going to call and ask me if I am happy.

Thinking I should just tell them yes it's good and sell it.

Thoughts anyone??
