Ram assist troubles

I bought hydro steer end cap a couple of
weeks ago. I put it on and taped my top cap but have a
problem and hope you can help. It has great turning
power to the left but to the right it has no power at
all. I acts like there is no power steering to the
right. The system has been bled and free of air. I
have the factory PS Hydro boost combo with the large
PS fluid reservoir. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,

Trey

How does it act with the ram unhooked and the holes plugged in the steering box? You may just have a bad steering box.

It acted fine before I put on the new end cap and tapped my top cap. I am starting to think that my PS pump is not going to keep up with the ram, ps, and hydrabost. I noticed that it sounded like it was low on fluid when your on the brakes hard. I may just go ahead and put another pump on and see what happens. It is the 89' K30 round style pump and not the saginaw style pump. If the new pump doesn't help I will plug off the ram for a ride this weekend.

How can I be sure that there is not any air in the ram? Crack the lines at the ram while someone slowly turns the wheel?

Bleeding the ram is a chore to say the least. You need to unhook the drag link and the ram and then go back and forth with the wheel lock to lock until it quits puking fluid out the fill tube and levels out.

I wouldn't suggest cracking the lines as this could let more air in.

Put the front on Jack stands.

Turn the wheels to fully collapse the ram. make sure that the res. is full and start turning the wheel very slowly to fully extend the ram. I am going to guess that your res will have either emptied itself or will be very near empty at this point.

If it empties you need to figure out a way to get more fluid storage in the system.

It takes a bunch of slow turns (50 or more) lock to lock with the truck running to get the air out of a assist system. DON't let the res go dry or you have to start all over.

I have a large reservoir about half a quart or so. It has stayed full even after driving it around the yard for an hour or so last night. I did start with the front end on jack stands in the beginning but I will pick it back up again and see what happens. I hope I can get it right because I don't want to have to take it off for the weekend. 42's and a front locker are no fun at all to turn without ram assist. Good workout though. I will try it tommorrow night and report back. Thanks
