got suprised today with a bonus at work, guess the "man" has been watching. what a suprise though...

now i will finally get to change out my cracked pass exhaust manifold and buy the inboard kit for my rear shocks!

my question is, i want to keep costs down with the exhaust and im thinking of going header-back, and i was thinking of a full summit kit that costs around 300 (not ceramic or stainless). how long do you think that kit would last in NY?

i know its a generic question, but has anyone else ran those summit kits before??? heres the link..

well, since i dont own my own business...anyone who tells me what to do is considered the man in my book. lol

so any ideas on that exhaust link i posted?

i live in ny and any exaust drivin all year round other than bone stock i see 3-4 years life out of it. the rust eats the hell out of them bad.

somthing about the new exaust systems on vehicles thay get around 5-6 years in general.

i would go find a good local exaust shop and give them the money and suport your local man.

i was hoping to get at least two to three...has anyone had experience with the entire kit that summit sells? headers and exhaust though?

That seems like a lot for just a universal kit, and the headers have small primaries. I got my exhaust from Jeg's, and the total was somewhere in the $350 range. It was Headman headers, Hooker dual exhaust, and cheapie generic welded type mufflers. Fit is good, but it would have been much easier if I got the Hooker headers that the exhaust kit was meant for. I like the Headmans better, but if I did it again I would just get the hookers. The hooker exhaust also came with all the needed bolts, clamps and hangers.

i see you have a burb too. do you have a link to the exhaust you thought you should have purchased?

the price i was talking about was for some summit generic headers, universal pipes, and universal mufflers....also did you just use clamps or was it welded?

I just clamped everything together. I don't have a part number for the exhaust, but it was made by Hooker and meant for a Burb/Pickup 4x4 with headers. IIRC, there were several kits to accommodate pickup or Blazer, 2x4 or 4x4, Header or manifold, etc. The exhaust did not fit very well at the front because it was meant to bolt to a set of Hooker headers. I also had to cut the flanges off the headpipes because the Headmans have a ball flange, rather than flat like the Hookers. All was well after a little fiddling here and there and the exhaust has been on there for a couple years now. The Burb is a DD all year long, and although the non-coated headers are looking a bit crusty on the lower portions, they seem to still be solid.

Here's the Jeg's # for the exhaust I used: 520-16526
And the headers that kit is meant for (I think): 520-2453

The reason I went with the headman headers was because they have a 3inch collector and a ball style flange. When I made that decision, I didn't realize it would be more work to use them... plus the collectors rub the shackles (it's my understanding that the coated Headman "Elites" do not have this issue).

buy your headers and then what he said

i would go find a good local exaust shop and give them the money and suport your local man.

at least check the pricing on a local muffler shop going from header back...never know for what your payin for an universal kit, you may could get it custom tucked and fit, maybe enuff left for some chrome tips...plus local guy can run them straight out the back, out the side, out the side on 45*, and he has all the tools ready to go, may save you some swearing & bleeding, not to mention he will guarantee you no leaks, let him mount the collecter adapter up even(no leaks)
