In the '74 Jimmy that Jagged delivered to me last Sunday. Checked the RPO sticker in the glove box and it listed 4.11 ration. Crawled under the front to check the D44 and the tag said 4.09 ration. I know the fronts normally had 4.09 and rears had 4.11 so its rounded off to 4.10 instead.
My question is: how rare is this to see factory 4.10 gears in 1/2 ton axles? Not once in my entire life have I ever seen a ratio like this in stock 1/2 tonners. Anyone else have them or knew of some? And I'm not talking about aftermarket gears put in place of the stock gears either.

What motor ? Appears to be standard 4wd ratio with the 250 six cylinder , and available on the 350 that year :thumb:

74 Blazer, 350/350/203, trailer package with 4:11 in Dana 44/12 bolt 6 lug.... I would love to find another set (Dana 44/12 bolt 6 lug) for my 78 Blazer.....

A friend of mine had a factory 1/2 ton 6 lug D44 axle with the 4.09's in it. Too bad he couldn't find anyone at the time who wanted it for $100.00 so he threw it away at the junk yard. :doah:

I think this Jimmy may be a "keeper" since its enough for me to call it one of those rare things you don't see very often from GM.

Same here but 350/465/205 in a '77. I think the trailer package is what does it. I'm switching to 3/4-ton though. The 12-bolt needs spiders, and I need to find a front end but.......:deal:

I've only seen a hand full of 44's, in the years i've been around fullsizes, with 4.10's.... One I have was originally an external hub 8 lugger. And come to think of it, the ones I've seen were mostly 3/4 units. So seems like 4.10 1/2 tons are a rare find.. :thumb: cool beans!

BTW, I got my 3/4 D44 about 8 years ago for $25. Guy lilsted it in the local paper. :D

only seen 2!

Of all the GM trucks I have had,and my friends,I've seen 4.10's only twice factory in a half ton!--both were in TWO wheel drive K's with a 12 bolt!!..one was a 75 K5 I bought with a factory camel humper 250-6 and a three speed manual tranny..open carrier...

The other was a 77 K5 2wd a freind bought not far from my house..it had a 350 with a Q-jet,TH350,and the 4.10 rear axle ratio!--the sticker listed it as "Trailer towing package option"..it also had 7 leaf rear springs, and the bigger rear brakes that usual..this was positration too(not sure what kind, but the RPO sticker claimed it was)

I'm not certain, but my 79 C10 might have 4.10's too,or 3.73's (never had the cover off )..but it was a 250-6 originally too,and it doesn't "feel" like the usual 3.08 ratio 98% of all GM trucks seem to come with factory here (1/2 ton anyway)..I've seen lots of 2.73's and 2.56's in 78-87 trucks too, when GM was on the emission wagon, and lightened everything up,and went to 10 bolt axles,etc..

it seems that the 4.10 ratio is a lot more common in the older half tons. i've seen lots of 67-72's with them, but i keep a special eye out for that body style since i own one.

when i went on vacation to florida last year, i stopped to look at a 71 K20 that was for sale on the roadside somewhere in Georgia. it had 5.14 gears optioned! actually 5.14 in the Eaton rear, 5.13 up front. i have not seen that before or since.

i actually have a 12 bolt 6 lug out of my 1976 blazer that has 4:10's that i am trying to sell. the axel has been totally rebuilt with less than 12,000 miles on it. swapped it for a 14 bolt ff with discs. if anyone is interested, email me back and we could work something out. i live near chicago, illinois.
