Took my son's pick up to a body shop to see about the hood and having two spots where the air defletor rubbed paint off repaired. The spots were approx 3 inches long, an inch wide, and rusting. They quoted just under $150 and would need the truck two days.
Being black, the smoothing is a chore as any blemish shows.

I squeak when I walk, so I went to Walmart and purchased rattle cans of touch up in the proper code, primer and clear coat. Went home and in a day sanded it, primed it, sanded the primer, sanded, primed, sanded, black, sand, black, sand, black sand, clear coat, sand clear coat. Then wet sand with 1600, use rubbing compound, wax the next weekend and you can't tell where the repairs were done.

Never tried real painting before. That was a rush.

if you want to get really redneck, pop a hole in the spray can and empty it into a spray gun and spray the paint that way.(i was too cheap and lazy to go buy the real car paint that day).
sprayed my rear bumper on my Ram that way.
