RE-Build Thread: 1989 K5 Trazer "The Dirty Girl"

Some small updates:

Got the driver side tube door in primer and test fit it. Afterwards, I took it off and painted it. Need to do some finishing touches before I can call the door done.

Full hydro steering is done and tested in the garage. Once the system built up pressure and I dead headed the pump when the tires were turned at the steering stops, we quickly realized that one of the hoses used was incorrect. It was a low pressure hose that should have been a high pressure hose. 45 minutes of cleaning up power steering fluid that sprayed everywhere and then a hose swap, everything was then ok. Whoops!

My bro fabbed up the rear mounts for the hood

And then moved on to the radiator:

The lower mount utilizes two bolt holes that were already in the B-52 bracket. A little more welding, primer and paint, and the radiator mounts will be finished.

Also found a place to mount some breathers:

Next up, I need to order up some scuff plates for the hood pin setup, a swivel water neck and accordion radiator hose. I also need to get a smaller flex fan. The stock fan will no longer work, it would have hit the hydro steering hoses. I do have a windstar dual electric fan setup, but at this point, we just want to get the truck out of the garage and into the mud. So that will have to wait for another day.

Really enjoyed reading this build thread. You and your bro have done one hell of a job on this rig, great to see it come together like it has from where you started. :thumb:

What brand of tubing bender did you go with when you guys bought it a while back?

Thanks for the kind words guys. The tubing bender we are using is from Speedway Motors. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/3rd-G...5&cadevice=c&gclid=CKPXwfO3ur4CFedFMgodFy4AeQ

It only bends to 90 degrees (hence why the stinger hoop looks the way it does) Also, at this point the clamp that holds the tube to the die has stretched a little bit. So it actually bends a maximum of a few degrees less than 90. So we will have to buy/make a new clamp one of these days. I think that bottle jack could be replaced with the air over hydraulic jack that Harbor Freight sells too.

Less than 2 months :deal:
Gah! Don't remind me! Been working on the Dodge a bunch, trying to get it ready for a show this saturday. Then it's back to the trazer. Got a swivel water neck and new upper radiator hose so that's lookin a little better. Also got a set of scuff plates for the hood, so that's just about done.

I dont want excuses. I want results.

And a ride in it

Sorry for lack of pics. Wiper cowl bar is done and a brace down the middle of the windshield from the roof halo to the wiper bar is done as well. Today after work we are going to get the mechanical fan cut down for clearance, finish up hood pins, my bro is going to weld a little more of the cage joints and then we will pull off the front sheet metal. Friday my Bro will had a tube support on the roof, then Saturday we will pull the truck out of the garage, remove the front cage work so my bro can weld up the hard to reach areas. Sand/scuff down the tube work. Then prime and paint it. We can then put the tube work back on to the truck and weld it back to the frame. Only thing after that is to finish painting the passenger side tube door, replace the battery and do a final check before the rig is ready for the Silver Lake dunes!

And here's some pics of what happened the last few days. We took the truck outside. Removed the cage, painted some of the frame, my bro welded the hard to reach are of the cage. Then it was primed and painted and reinstalled on the truck. Oh and last night the truck decided it was time for a trans line to start leaking. So now that has to be fixed :doah:

Fan was cut down so that it clears the steering hoses.

For anybody that's going to be at the Sand Dune Party next weekend, do you have any of these bump stops laying around that you would sell? I need 1 for the passenger side.

Sorry, not much in the way of updates recently. Been doing the finishing touches on a few things and getting stuff primed & painted before it rusts up again. Would like to make a trip before the end of the year. Spending most of my time lately on my 52 Dodge coronet, hitting up a lot of car shows with it.
