In changing the transmission fluid:

a) What solvent should i use to clean the inside of the pan?

b) What's the best type of pan gasket to use? Cork? Rubber? etc?

c) Best brands of filter, fluid, gaskets etc?

Use mineral spirits, brake cleaner, or similar.
If you plan on taking it off again get a lube locker gasket, otherwise a Corklam gasket. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!
I like Valvoline or NAPA oil products.

Fluid is a personal choice. The full synthetics are nice but can get pricey if you're talking about a full flush. I use Amsoil in my transmissions.

This is what happens when you over tighten the pan bolts. Lube Locker Gaskets work great.....more than once.
