Can anybody recommend a good shop in the Denver area to re-gear my diffs? Running 3:42 or 3:73 now, in the 10 -bolts. Might be picking up a 14 for the rear soon, but either way I'm looking to swap out the gears for 4:88s or 5:13s. Be running 35s on 'em. Looking for a reputable shop with reasonable prices, OR a K5 gearhead who wants to make a few bucks. Anybody?

In a 10 bolt I wouldn't go any lower than 4.56 gears. With 35 inch tires the 4.56 will be just right. I have the 4.56 in mine with 33s and I am spinning too high of RPMS on the highway for my taste even in OD. Now if you don't drive on the street then that won't concern you. One thing to remember is the higher the gear ratio the weaker the gear set because there is less metal in the gears. So if you plan on hammering on your rig and having your 10 bolts hold up I would reccommend staying at 4.56 or less. The only shop I know of in Denver is 4 wheel parts but I have no idea what they cost or how good they are.

4.56 and 33s is great with overdrive. I'd say that's about right. You're just used to your truck lugging, and it doesn't now, so you think it's revving too much. Trust me, that's about right for a heavy truck like ours. If yours was lifted more, you'd really understand how nice the lower gears are.

I would put 4.88s in it, myself, for 35s. 4.56 might be enough, but a little extra gear never hurt anyone, ESPECIALLY with OD.

And I'd say 4.56 is too high for 35's if you have OD and your lockup convertor works .. wish I had 4.88s or 5.13s.

i got a 88 k5 w/ 700R4. i run 36" radial swampers on it . 10 bolt frt, 12 bolt rear (i swapped it in). 4.56's seem a little low to me if it is a dd. i like it on the low side though. oh yah it is my dd & it has a 350 tbi w/ some mods. i get 13-14 mpg w/ this set up.

give me 5.13s or give me death! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Top speed and RPM's with 35's and 4:56, 4:88, 5:13? Loks like I'm leaning towards the 4:88s at this point, but???? Not really a daily driver, but need to retain some street manners just in case... Really the only time I drive it is to and from the firehouse (less than two miles) and to the hills. /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

i dunno, all i know is that rpms are too low for OD with my 4.56s...so i want more gear. In the end, the difference between 4.88 and 5.13 isnt much... so I figure I'll just go all the way. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
