Re-keying door locks

I have simply bought new locks for less than 20 bucks, rather than pay a locksmith to cut new keys for the old ones, which are probably worn out anyway...since the door panel must come off to remove the lock to take it to a locksmith,I just assume put brand new ones in instead...............................................................................................I have about 200+ GM keys I saved from junk cars we had at the junkyard, and a few friends who towed junkers in for scrap also gave me several large key rings full of older GM keys...so far I've only had one truck I couldn't find a key for to unlock the doors or start it up,but it does suck having to try 199+ keys in the locks before you might find "the" one that'll work!..................................................................................................Speaking of keys, does anyone else HATE the new "chipped" keys that can cost up to 1000 bucks to get replaced when the "chip" decided to crap out??...another reason I dont want a "newer" truck...friend recently bought 2 BMW's at auction cheap, because they cant be started to determine the engines condition--found out to buy a new key he needs to be the "titled owner of the car",and must bring both the car AND the title to a dealer to get another key made, which will cost anywhere from 500 bucks and UP!...also had a Saab he ended up scrapping because of the same problem--kinda sucks when a stupid key costs more than a car is worth....and there is no way to "cheat" as far as anyone knows to get the car to run without the right key...even salvage yards usually just scrap perfectly good engines because they cant be bothered wasting money on keys, just to hear if one will run good or not!.....

If he hasn't figured out what to do after 4 1/2 yrs I doubt he ever will. :deal:
I knew a guy once that could take that long to decide what to do.:haha:

Since we're talking locks, my Jimmy has different keys for the tailgate and doors. They aren't even the same keyway. Is that normal?

since your in cali,. if you have AAA, call them they can cover up to $100 for locksmith services. had a key made for my brothers ford f350 that he lost the keys for.
I was going to suggest this too. I had this done twice! Once on an old 240z, and another time when i needed my tailgate lock to match my door locks.

Is it just me or do those look like shill posts? No previous posts outside reviving this 6 year old thread, all have linked text to websites I'm not about to click on, and bad grammar/punctuation.
