Read if interested in 69-72 K5 bikini top

62 names of people interested. The main concern I am seeing is windshield attachment options. Those with a Fastrac top want to be able to adapt to the Fastrac system, but those with snap tops want to be able to go that route. There are a couple people who would want a longer bikini top so they could cover the rear passengers when they have a rearmost rollbar mounting point.

I just submitted the list of names to LeeAnn with Bestop. She seemed impressed that so many names have been gathered.

She measured their Scout II bikini top and the portion that fits in the front windshield rail is 53" wide and there is 2 1/2" of additional material on each side so the total width would be about 58".

Hopefully she will make some sort of response to our request.

Allright YJ!!
Now maby they will respond?

There is obviously a market they can tap, but honestly, I think TonyP's friend might be better for most of us given the fact that people want different ways of attachement. Especially because I wouldn't expect that Bestop could make one that will work with the Fastrac top system.

Ok, I talked to him and he will get things going this saturday. He will first check out my top and get measurements for it (fasttack), I told him about having rollbar in different places on each truck and he was ok with that. He would just need to know where the rollbar was from the front hook on point (the lip on top of the windshield frame). Will keep you guys posted...

That is great news.

For people who don't have a Fastrac top, as he is looking at it, talk with him about what he would need to do different so people could add snaps. I don't know if there would need to be anything different, but see what he thinks.

If he wanted we could get someone with a Bestop and someone with a Kayline/STC snap top to measure the location of their existing snaps so he could add the snaps.

Kind of get an idea of how standard he wants to make it or if he is willing to work with some people who have special requests.

Also, see what colors he can do and what type of material he can work with.

Thanks so much for you help on this /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

for anyone who is interested. I made a bikini top that requires no drilling, it uses the existing mounting locations as the hard top. i uses a flat steel plate across the top front that sandwiches in a canvas top. I must of paid 60 for material and labor. I'll get some pics up sometime before this weekend.

canvis material similar to what Can-Bak uses

He can make the top out of what ever you want (color, material), he said the vinyl material would last longer and that the canvas type would dry out and get hard after time. But that if the canvas was not in the sun all the time it would last.
I’m going to go with the canvas top for mine..

Coolllll
I don't know if the snap type could be 'standardized' due to the simple fact that there would be no way to put all the snaps in the right location. For me I would want NO snaps or snap holes put in the front. I would just want a folded cuff that I could make my own holes in then press the snaps myself. That way I will be 100% on all snap locations.
Oh and I thinking Canvas too...
Thanks Tony...keep us posted /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Billy came over today and looked over my soft-top and then took it home. He will make one up for me to check out how it will fit and work, should be done this week so I will post up some pic’s. He is making it up out of canvas and it will be a ¼ top bikini type that will go to my first roll bar.
This will be a fastrac type top, for those with out a soft-top he has a system to connect them to the windshield frame, and those with the snaps across the top he might have to have you add the snaps…

Ok, first try on the bikini top was done and it looked great, the connection on the front (fast-trac)was perfect and the canvas material looks very nice. Will do a final fit tomorrow and I'm running a 1/4 top... /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

That does look great on how it is mounted to the windshield. Can't wait to see it tightened over the roll bar!

I will let you post your pics over at the 67-72 Blazer board when you have a chance. I brought my original message back to the top over there let members know you would be posting some pics soon.

Has he firmed up a price yet. Put me first in line for one set up for the Fasttrac mounting system!

we had it on but by the time I got my camera he had the top almost off, it looks great when tight... /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Ohhh cool!

Now Tony, for the one he makes me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifI would like the front of the top to goto the inside edge of the window frame. See in that first pic how there is still 1 inch or so showing, that is were my snap holes are so I would need the material to fill that spot. I figure a nice hem with reinforced sweing would work great! Then I can punch my own holes /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif
