A couple years ago I started collecting names of people who might be interested in purchasing a bikini top for their K5. Got a bunch of names and another boardmember, tonyp, and I took the reins and got some produced by a boat top maker Tony knew in California. Tonyp has not been active here for quite some time and I've taken steps to see about getting these bikini tops available again. A local upholstery shop is willing to make these bikini tops. Final price hasn't been determined but expect it to be in the range of $120 + $20 shipping.

Once these are available I will update this post and put an actual for sale post in the classified section.

UPDATE Here is a post in the classified ad section!

The purpose of this post is just to get an idea how many people might be interested. As before, I'm not making a penny on this, just helping to get bikini tops available as none of the big top makers were interested when I contacted them a couple years ago.

There will be two styles available. One is a style that can attach with snaps across the front (you install the snaps so you get them where your existing snaps might be) The other style is for people who already own a Fastrac style soft top. I don't have access to the Fastrac attachment rail and at the present time STC is not in business so you're on your own if you need the attachment rail.

There are some pics of a bikini top tonyp and I had designed for the Fastrac rail <A href="http://yukon.b0xen.us/bikinitop/" target=_blank>here along with some pics of the Fastrac rail that I purchased for myself before STC went out of business. The ones made by the local upholstery shop should be identical. He will use my bikini top for the Fastrac style pattern and Burt4x4 donated his snap style bikini top to also use as a pattern.

Hopefully these will be available shortly and like I said, I'll get a thread going in the classified section and throw a link in this post.

Count me in as well. Would it be possible to have the exact same thing only about 4'-5' longer and pay more money. Want to be able to cover the rear passangers too. Thanks.

Definitely. He will take special requests and knows there will be a few who will want the extra length to do exactly what you are planning.

Looks like we might have the order sheet done later today

Does he need to have use pre-pay our orders?

if so what is his business address and contact info to send him money?

any plans for a full soft top is all goes well?

Richard

if i had plans to just have one for the front, i'd definitely be down. but i need a bikini size 20 to cover the rear seat as well. so i'll be having one made locally...or in mexico for a few pesos. i remember reading about this when i first joined ck5 & i even contacted Tonyp about getting one made. this is cool.

I'm interested too!!! Us 73-75 guys get left outta everything! :sob:

I need to take some measurements to see if this will "bolt in", but put me down... I think our windshields would be the same size on 69-72 and 73-75, but anyone know for sure? Also what kind of price are we looking at for one with the extra 4-5' ? Thanks!!!!

Just putting the finishing touches on an order form that will have his contact info for sending money or paying by credit card.

For extra length I will have people call the upholstry guy to get an exact quote. It will all be covered in the order form.

I don't know how close the 2nd gen Blazer windshields are to the 1st gen's.

I spoke to the upholstry guy about a full soft top and unfortunately he doesn't have the tools needed to make a proper frame so he isn't interested in making ull soft tops.

They will be a marine grade canvas that is waterproof, although waterproof and bikini top don't equal real rain protection. I believe the fabric is made by Dickson.

So I did some measuring on the windshield, and I think it will work... sure would like to know for sure though..

Oh, and will these include snaps to attach to the windshield frame?

The upholstry guy chose to let people source their snaps locally - here's a link to a snap kit available at Ace Hardware stores.
