Ready to buy a reman 700R4, any good-bad experience?

Well back to 700's... I know that this doesn't apply to everyone but I just found a local guy who had a good rep for building trannies rebuild mine when mine died... Ordered the corvette servo, .500 boost valve, beast sun gear shell, and transgo shift correction kit and had him install it all for $200 bucks... been running strong with firm shifts for a few months now (and I'm running 37's with 3.73's :eek1: ). Got to get the trans cooler and temp gauge in mine, I think heat is the number one killer of 700's and the main reason for their bad rep. Mine is in my '89 K5 so it's computer controlled instead of vacuum. The only thing I regret is not going higher on the rebuild kit, the one with the kevlar and extra OD clutches or whatever it is, would have been nice. Ask around at local parts stores or shops they might know someone :dunno: .

$200??? How's he make any money??? How much for the parts???

He really just does it on the side, that was just labor I purchased the rebuild kit and all the parts, and pulled the transmission my self and took it to his house. I can't remember exactly how much they all were seems like I had $500-$600 in it all together. Got the parts (except the rebuild kit I got from O'Reilly's, just a stock kit) from Monster Transmissions, http://www.eatmyshift.com/. That's why I said it doesn't apply to everyone, hard to find a guy that will do it so cheap but they're out there.

This latest purchase could settle my 700R4 dilema...

Stumbled accross this at the local Auto partz store, just "luck" I guess...
'92. 5 speed, 205k, 5.7, pretty beat, but brand new tires, runs well... $600
NOT for sale, just boasting...

Put a Factory GM one in mine about 4 months ago .... 3 years and 100k mile nation wide warranty and you dont have to worry about getting your hands dirty on it for a long time ! Was only about $1200.00 :D

Where did you find one for that cheap? Every dealer I've called was $1600 or more :eek1:
