a GMC roll out of the same factory as a Chevy, im not dumb i know they are the same and all but just wondering

There were several plants churning out 'C' and 'K' series GMC and Chevrolets according to my Chiltons. I know, not the best source and it's possible that not all plants listed were truck plants.

The abbreviations I see are GMAD, and GMT...which I am going to assume is GM automotive division, and GM truck division. That narrows it down to Flint (Chev plant) Pontiac MI, GMT (possibly both?) Chevrolet Detroit, and Oshawa and Scarborough in Canada.

Really we might be able to get this one nailed down if a few GMC guys posted the build plant and so did the Chev guys. For 81 and up the build plant letter in the VIN is the very last letter before the numerical end sequence starts.

My GMC was built in Flint, which is listed as a Chevrolet plant ('F' is the 11th character)

Anyone with a Chev built in Flint?

My 1975 CHEVY burb was built in Flint

There ya go...Chev's and GMC's were built in the same plants. Mystery solved.:)

4 of my Chevys were built in Fort Wayne, IN. i still dont know where the truck plant is there though.

Now I have to look!

I'll have too look at all the trucks in my "fleet" and see where they were made--I'm fairly sure all of mine have a maple leaf sticker on the doors(made in Canada)--but I had a 71 GMC that was built in Tarrytown NY according to the VIN#...I dont see why they would not build both GMC and Chevy's at the same plants, the only things different are the grill and hubcaps, and a few other parts:confused:
