i just got into the k5's cause there always pullin out my jeep. i bought a 83 with an edlebrock 350, dana 60 in the front, corporate 14 bolt in the rear, np 205 t.c. and a sm465. im good with all the mechanical stuff but i cant find for the life of me what the lower headlights on the truck do. mine dont work and i want to know if there just high beams or if all four headlights do both high and low beams. i replaced them with new lamps but they still dont work so when i find out what they are i can look into it more. both my frinds with k5's lower light dont work either so they cant help me and i cant find anything online or in the repair manuals.

The upper ones are high and low, and the lower ones are high only. I think, but not positive. I need to go out and look at my 1985 dually, which also has the Silverado premium headlight package like yours apparently does. That is unless all K5's come that way. I have actually never owned a generation-2 K5 myself.

After going out to the garage to look at the lights on my 1985 dually, it looks like I was correct in my first post.

Top lights are high/low, bottom lights are high only and come on as 'booster's'...

I guess that means all the lights are the same brightness?
Nope, the upper lights have a low beam filament and a high beam filament. When switched to high beam mode, they have a higher wattage and a different focus point on the reflector. The bottom lights are high beam only.

IIRC, the standard is 35 watt low beam and 55 watt high beam.

The winner!

the high beam switch works because when i switch to high, the upper lights do go on high. im gonna trace the wires then and see if ican find a break or something.

nice! i found that the wiers goin to the fuse panel were ripped out. i put them back to gether and i have all four headlights workin now, just like you guys said, the tops are high and lows and the lows are high and lows. thanks alot for the help every one.
