I've found a 1993 K2500 extended cab long bed, the color I want and everything. I was just wondering what kind of numbers you saw out of your 6.5's? I'm wanting to replace my XJ with it since having another vehicle on the road and insured would be dumb right now.

Jeep gets around 18-20 depending on weather and fuel brand.

I had a 97 K2500 short box extended cab. In good general tune, 99% stock with a 4L80E and 3.73 gears. I got 18-19mpg. I drove mostly country roads and some highway, very little in town. Even pure interstate runs were ~19.5. I had 190k on it, so it was getting up there, but like I said, it ran like a top. I'd say 15-16 in town and 18-19 highway is a pretty realistic idea of what to expect. An NV4500 equipped truck would get an MPG or two better, based on what I've heard from owners of such trucks.

My 6.2L turbo diesel gets a real world 18 mpg when I drive it on the highway. 4.10 gears and 37" Boggers with an NV3500. In town is closer to 13 or 14 mpg, takes a lot of effort to get that heavy truck rolling

I have a 92 2500 ext cab 6.2 with the NV4500- ( the oddball 6.34:1 version). With a .73 overdrive, and 235 75 and 410's I got about 22-23 on flat land, sea level. THe problem was that it was mostly designed to cruise at 55- 1800-2200rpm is your sweet spot. I upsized to 285's to bring my tire diameter higher so that I could cruise as 65.

'96 ext cab shortbox 235/85/16s 4.10s 4l80e. 14 mpg at sea level whether or not I'm towing my 7,000 lb trailer. It's around 11 in the winter when it has an 8' steel plow on it.

My (Stolen in 2008) 1995 K2500 Ext Long bed 6.5 with NV4500 and 4.10 Gears got between 15-16 in town and about 18 on the highway.

Didnt matter if i ragged on it or babied it.

what xj do you have that gets 18-20mpg?

98 XJ Cherokee 4.0L I6 AX-15 5 speed NP231 TC 3.55 gears 3" lift on 31x10.50x15's toting a tool box, highlift, small assortment of recovery gear and fluids. When I had all season BFG Long Trails, I was getting 22 but the General Grabber AT2's are a little heavier.

Our 2001 WJ Grand Cherokee (that was recently crashed) had the 4.0L and got 18-19 consistently and near 23 on just interstate driving.

It's going to be VERY difficult going from these two to a Suburban and a K2500 unless I can get the 6.5's in them. I may just break down and go get the truck too. I hate being monetarily responsible, sucks the fun out of buying vehicles...
