My temp guage jumped way up high one day, put some oil in and some water, went back to normal. Yesterday my water pump was puking its guts out. So this morning i replaced the water pump, and when i started it...the temp went up to about 240*! and wouldnt go down.

Im thinking temp guage, but it never went that high or stayed high before i replaced the water pump.

Any ideas?

You have an air pocket trapped in the system somewhere. You need to start and stop the engine to bleed the air bubble out. It sometimes takes me 10 or 15 minutes to get rid of the air pocket but if you don't expect to soon be fixing some cracked heads or even worse, rebuilding an engine.

Maybe not even that long in between. Run it for a minute or two then shut it off, it should blurp out a bunch of water then restart and top off the water and keep this up until it doesn't blurp water out anymore.

did the start and stop thing. Along with squeezing the hoses to get water to the thermostat...about 20 min. later i got the thermostat to open, didnt get over 190*. So im gonna put the fan shroud and everything back in and take it for a drive.

Thanks alot Scott, hopefully that was it!
