REALLY STRONG ½TON REAR END?

Well I will chime in here to those that think the 1/2 ton is not worthy of being under our blazers and pickups...
I was at the very same run that Jeff Crawlin70 and frizzlefry was at and out of the 8-9 rigs that went up to the point of the mayham area ...Guess what I was the only one in the group with...GULP..a 12 bolt with a L/S and an open YES I said open front d44 1/2ton..But they are all 1/2 ton Right...???
Hell I think that it dosent boil down to what is better this or that...
It boils down to the driver and there skills on making what they have work for them...
Hell I know better than to gas the left pedal while trying to scale a rock wall ...Duh..( I know my blazers limitations and keep that in mind.. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif)
But for someone to ask a ??? like what was better and someone saying that there is no such thing ..That is BS in it self..Voice your opinion and like chaz said already...They are like a holes we all have them...
He asked for opinions and he gets them..BUT not anyONE opinion is better then the other...He knows the drawbacks to all and will make his choice accordingly ...
BTW..I will go 14bff VAN very soon..But will I ever spend the money on a d60...No I dont NEED it that bad... /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

<font color="green"> Wow, this thread is so exciting! Watching the same people make the same arguments over and over again is great! I'm on the edge of my seat here, wondering where it might go next! Will Bubba say that 1/2 ton stuff is great? Will BigDaddy say it sucks? Who knows!? I guess I'll have to check back in later! /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

And your point would be? Like I've said previously, I've also seen 14FF breakage, so with I could very easily say that they are junk, which I don't nor have ever claimed.

[/ QUOTE ] If I only had a quator of the stuff I had, I'd be doing more then good. I screwed most everything of value off over my dope years. Last couple of years for me has been trying to get back on my feet so to speak. Right now it's all about paying bills and scraping up what little cash I can for parts for the K5. But one day, it'll be all that and then some. I also buy stuff for the house, so funds can be pretty short sometimes. I'm working tords a 1-Ton set up under my K5. Now for the 1/2 issue: I decide to go bigger becouse of past experence with 1/2 axles. I fawkered up a few 12 bolters in my first K5. So it's worth it TO ME to go for the 14 Bolt FF in the rear. Would a 12 bolt last with the wheeling I do ??? Maybe, but I really wouldn't want some breakage in the middle of the woods.

Here you go, I searched for "strong half ton" Link to Thread /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Not exactly a new topic. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif What can I say, I was bored tonight.

I pull this from the M_J Archives "That fits into the more money than brains category", actually I fit this category too. The darned thing is - I never once claimed that my 1/2 ton junk was stronger or even as strong as a 1 ton setup. I'd seen the Okie boys hammer their 1 ton's and knew I could never do that. I got tired of going to runs and only playing on the easy stuff. I mean, I had no faith in my 1/2 ton.

For the record - there is no way possible to build a 1/2 ton to be "as strong as a 1 ton". As stated in an above post, the ring gear, is the major limiting factor - not to mention several other factors.

I don't think anyone here has said negative things about other peoples rigs. This has not been a direct jab at Crawlin70 and what he can do with his rig.

Remember, its not what works for others - its what works for you. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I would like to say, if any of you are planning on dropping as much as Crawlin70 did on your 1/2 ton stuff (or even as much as I did), I can save you tons of money by pointing you directly towards the Government Liquidation sites. You can buy a whole M1008 (1 ton with 4.56 gears and Detroit in the rear/D60 up front) for roughly $1500. You can then sell the rest of the truck and make the money to buy your rims, lift and whatever.

Hell, heres the ultimate build up - Buy a M1008 and M1009 from the Government, then combine them both for a cheap and fun 1 ton K5!

And still no talk of Rockwells ???? Just stirring the pot alittle /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

What about jeep Model 20's I heard there great /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

EVERY ONE JUST CALM DOWN! Yeah really Todd, why are you promoting the famed 8 lug stuff anyway? Don't you remember you are the one, lug nut challenged?

I guess you wont spend as much time tightening lug nuts while at the gas station.

Contrary to everyone's belief, You must be a pretty good guy - I mean hell, you haven't even pushed the fact of "why go 1 ton when you can go 2 1/2 ton cheaper"! /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Wasn't 14B,but,I did break/wear out a 70 Eaton 1 ton.Right side locking assem blew up and left me with only 1 wheel to pull home on.This did happen on the street with 36 TSL SXs.If I could have gotten parts I would still be using it,but,it was 16spl axles and noone here could get parts for it.It was a boat ankor with 11 1/2 ring. This has been interesting debate though.Lots of good comments on both sides. Most of my hard wheelin has been in Tellico area and I really look forward to getting out to Moab area to try rocks without mud on them soon, mabey end of June if I can afford it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I saw how much he spent, just wanted to hear you say it. You dont think that is a waste of money. I mean, thats more than most people pay for a K5 in good shape, and this was money spent just to make mediocre axles trailworthy. I just dont understand people with more money than they know what to do with.

you are a plain and simmple a$$!
as i stated i built these 3 years ago NOBODY I REPEAT NOBODY WAS RUNNING 1TON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
now why would i pull them out if they are working fine? when i got these as already stated mr watson was running 1/2ton on his rig too. who do you think i bought all this stuff from? if i would have known about 1ton i would have went that way just for a peice of mind. but i am not going to part out axles that are working awsome in my rig! anytime you wana come out i will show you the way through the rocks. just try and keepup.

now have a nice day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff,

You should really go the way that I have chosen in this thread and ignore these people cause we all know we can have a more productive and intelligent debate with a deaf wall.

You're just mad because you wasted all that money and somebody like me tells you that and you have to retaliate with childish remarks. If you guys are so high and mighty, then why do you keep replying to "asses" like Todd and I?
