This is my dad's 1989 Suburban V1500. All stock on saggy suspension.

Friday it started making a horrible racket, sounded like it was right under the rear seat. It vibrate really bad and feel like it was binding up almost, or something was dragging. The noise sounded like metal on metal banging or slapping, very loud and not muffled.

I looked at it then.. u joints were definitely hosed.

Changed the joints out today with knew ones from Precision.. vibes went away but the noise is still very much prevalent and you can feel a vibration. When you let off the pedal you hear the loud metal noise again.

Do I have a 10 bolt ready to explode?

This truck has at LEAST 300k on the chassis.. and it still had the stock sealed joints which is surprising...

Only other thing I can think of is the transfer case...

I haven't pulled the rear cover of the axle yet... :doah:

Probably, did you wiggle the pinion around when putting the driveshaft back in?

It sounds like a bad pinion bearing is a possibility. If there is ANY play in the pinion bearing you will need to replace it.

No play in the pinion...

does it have a gov bomb in it?

Best thing to do and you know this is too pull the cover, the pinion bearings are usually the first to go in a diff. So its possible you have a broken gov lok or broken spiders or some thing like that

No gov bomb.. will check though for carnage.

This thing is a piece anyways.. should just find a roller to put the low mile engine and trans in..
