Hey all - hoping you can help me with what I'm missing here....I am working to change my body mount on my 1985 K5. I'm working on the right side first. I have all of them unbolted and I jacked the body up. From the front to the rear, I was able to easily swap out the front 3. I am stuck on the rear body mount.

It is like the rear mount has a stud that comes down from the body of the cab. The top of the stud (near the cab) has a square shank on it - about the size for a 9/16" wrench. I tried a wrench on it, but it did not seem like it wanted to turn. I wanted to get some advice before moving forward. Any ideas on what I am missing?

Picture of the rear mount that I'm talking about. In the pick, the body is down on the frame (not jacked up).

Iirc, my '91 had carriage bolts (round head, square neck) that were tack welded to the floor on the top side of the floor. I had to pull up the carpet and take a grinder to cut it loose from the tack.

Also beware, I had trouble lifting the rear of the tub because of the tailgate assist springs. These are connected to both the tailgate and the frame.

Thanks! I'll check under the carpet when I get home.

I just change all my 85 body mounts. You can place a piece of 4x4 on a floor jack and jack right under the hinges for the rear mount. Yes the spring assist is there but it is not hard mounted to the frame. I lifted mine with the gate down to have access to the carriage bolt. i replaced all bolts due to the fact that all were half way rusted away at the very middle section of the bolts.

Thanks gents - It was just as @nvrenuf suggested...Carriage bolt welded to the body.

I'm also replacing all bolts except for the very front one on the passenger side -- my transmission cooler lines are run through that oval made to access the top of that bolt so I can't get the bolt out without disconnecting the lines.

Just did mine on a 87 like nveruf. Said bring those tac welds off I used I scissor jack between frame and body to get high enough good luck worked really well for me.
