Quick question for you chevy gurus... do the brakes on a 14BFF automatically adjust during regular use? Or does using the e-brake adjust the rear brakes? I just replaced the rear brakes and now the right rear grabs before the left rear!!

They are allegedly, though not actually in practice, self-adjusting. Those star adjusters just stick.

As Muddytazz says, whang the skinny pedal coming out of the driveway and slam on the brakes when you're leaving in the morning ... pisses the wife off and you can demand that you're adjusting the brakes :haha:

I was always told to drive in reverse and slam on the brakes to adjust them... is that true? Or does the adjuster work the same whether your driving forward or reverse?

the best way to adjust them is to jack up the wheel and get underneath it while using a screw driver thru the hole in the backing plate. you did grease up the star adjusters really well when you had it apart??? keep adjusting till you get a slight drag on each wheel.

Well, as YZEater says, you should adjust them when you replace the shoes and/or have the drums off for any reason. And you should grease them. I have done this, and they still don't self-adjust as the shoes' linings wear down.

Apparently they prefer to adjust in reverse, which is why the book says to back it up and slam on the brakes.

Thanks for the help guys, I did grease the adjusters good while I had it apart, however, my 14b does not have an access hole in the backing plate to adjust them through. I stabbed the brakes a couple times on pavement and they seem to be doing a lot better.

Thanks again,
Zach
