Got phase one done on my rear bumper. Now to start to work on the swing down tire carrier. I am pretty happy with it so far.... pretty simple and easy design. Man, I really need to get the new tailgate on - that one is pretty rough.

the tail gate adds character..:D I would not swap it..that would mean rusty bolts..an afternoon and lots of bear and cussing to deal with it..a little foam should do it..add a sticker that says "my 2500.00 blazer has less rust that the truck you owe 15.000 on"

I like the bumper. simple and beef!

It actually has a bullet hole in it in top left corner. No I didn't shoot it (even though I have wanted to many, many times). So, yeah lots of "character" to it. :D

How about a couple of specs on the bumper, like measurements, materials, and cost... looking to do a nice simple design bumper like that for mine. Looks good.

The material is 2x4 tube steel, 1/4 thick. The shackle mounts are actually one piece to the back of the bumper, I think they are half inch thick. We cut the front of the bumper out just wide enough for the mounts to slide to the back of the tube, drilled three holes in the back of the bumper and rosette (sp?) welded the tabs to the back of the bumper. The reciever hole is recessed two inches up into the bumper. I think the main beam of the bumper is 75 5/8 inches long. I just used some junk flat stock to cap the ends. I used two four inch sections of the 2x4 tube to mount the bumper to the outside of the frame rails with three per side, half inch grade 8 bolts.

Cost
$93 dollars / 10 ft stick of 2x4x1/4 tube
$20 in Shackle tabs
$10 +/_ for Receiver

It is pretty heavy, and probably a lot more stout than it needs to be. I was concerned with having a tire carrier bounching up done on it so I probably went a little overboard.

Let me know if you need more info. The measurements are from the top of my head, but next week I can get real ones if you want.

Nice work! Looks nice and clean.

However, I'm not sure I care for the egg crate look. Not too sure what you're using it for. :screwy:

:haha:

That is the new way to make sure you don't roll over backwards on climbs, jeez I thought everyone knew that. :D That was just to hold it up so I could mark the mounting holes to drill them out.
