MY stock frame was JNF'd so I cut it and welded angle and channel to make a new mount. I also added the piece of channel for a new x member. I used 3" channel to mount the bumper to the 4" channel that is welded to the frame.
The tail pipe is blocking the bracket but you can still see it. It is 1"x 5" (I think) angle iron. The bracket goes into the 3"x8" square tube bumper, welded inside and out of the bumper before I caped off the bottom. The bracket is bolted to the frame with 3 G8 bolts on each side. I have yanked several stuck rigs pretty hard and so far no movement.
Hope this pic helps...
When I did the hidden hitch out back I ran a plate all the way underneath the area where the shackleflip is and drilled out the 4 holes on each side to create a "frame sandwich" in that shackleflip area.
My frame was a little tweaked-looking, so I cut off the frame "turndowns" (it was a '72 frame) and with those long pieces of 1/4" plate on both sides I gained a lot of extra strength and got all the material I needed to build custom bracketry from.
My rear bumper brackets are probably way overkill, but I wanted to strengthen the rear of the frame. I also replaced the rear x-member with a tube welded to the bumper a bit further back for biggger gas tank clearance. The side rails are 1/2 plate and run up the framerails past the shackle mounts. My shackle mounts bolt though the 1/2 plate. It's super rigid.
I got my brackets torched out today and some 4" channel to extend the frame 11" out the back, so basically the frame will end at the tailgate. The bumper brackets are 3/8" think semi truck frame and will wrap over the top of the frame.
