Someone told me that something for the tailgate on K5 is attached to the bumpers:confused:.

Is this true, if so anyone car to explain.

Thanks

theres "springs" that help you close the tailgate, they're actually attached to the frame/tailpan... its just a boost to help you close it, cause its kinda heavy without them, if u open yours you can see them on the left and right of the tailgate near the bottom.

The part that you cant see that goes to bumper bracket to frame bolt looks like an S . Hope this picture helps.

I was asking cause I gotta get a replacent bumper cause the crome is fallin off mine. I was just gonna build something custom but IDK. we will have to see how much money I have when the time comes.

I kept the brackets and welded the bumper to the outer ones. They have worked fine. even when my poor cheby had to be towed ass up from Detroit (70 miles). Boogerless should have a picture some where of my shame...:(

A guy built it for me and did the welding on to my truck for $500.00

If you want to try to build it let me know and I will take measurements and pics. I am not able to weld due to my health :( and also no place to work on it but outside.

I shouldn't need measurements cause i can pretty much build it myself but thanks anyways. Was just looking for a price range for it but $500 seems like a damn good deal to have someone else do it ;)

What material is that made of?

According to the web site bumpers are made from 5"x2" square tubing that is 3/16" thick. All bumpers are closed on the ends. All plates for the mounting brackets are 1/4" thick.

I think mine is different (bigger/thicker) can measure it later raining right now. Here is his web site. http://crboffroad.com I am thinking about having him make me a front bumper to hold a winch if I cant find what I need to mount to frame behind bumper like a couple of guys here.

I run a fabricated bumper, but it reuses most of the stock mounting holes. Those springs "hook" on some special bolts and by reusing those special factory bolts, the springs attach the same as before.

It's not a big problem to overcome, but it does require a little attention when you are working on a new bumper.
