Everytime I walk by my K5, I cringe when I see my current rear bumper or lack there of. The PO took the rear bumper off and had this whatever you call it put on. I'm looking to add an OEM chrome bumper or aftermarket chrome bumper.

Anybody bought bumpers from the usual suspects aka LMC or Brothers? LMC has a chrome rear bumper (159.00) and premium chrome bumper (189.00). Is the premium worth the extra 30.00? Any bumpers I need to stay away from? Any other leads? Doesn't have to be perfect, but in good condition.

I've seen a "Bumper Boys" truck at many large swap meets here in New England--they are a large outfit, and sell a lot of re-chromed and new ones, but I have no personal experience with them, and dont know anyone who has dealt with them--probably like anything else that is re-chromed,it will only last a few years before it fades or starts to peel--the new "china" chrome bumpers are probably no better either...

I have one of those $159 bumpers on the front and it started to get rust spots within 8 mos. If you keep it wiped their not to bad. Lots thinner than the old original one.

I bought a new rear chrome bumper from LMC about 10 years ago. I didn't realize I didn't have the right brackets to put it on at the time and eventually changed my mind about using it. It's been sitting in my garage ever since. If you're interested in it let me know.

PM inbound, Ashman.

Anybody have a pic of a stock rear bumper mouthed to the frame? I want to see how it's mounted. Would also like to see how the license plate is mounted too. The LMC catalogs claim only an "outer bracket" is needed for out K5s. I can't figure out where it bolts to the frame while looking under my K5. The LMC picture looks different from frame. Has my frame been altered to install the roll pan the PO had added?

It appears in the above picture that the outer brackets were installed at one paint due to the discoloration/indentation on the frame.

Here is what I have going on.

Inside shot of rear frame horns attaching to bumper:

License plate holder bolt in points, two on left and two on right to connect to bumper and two bolts/screws to secure license plate to holder:

You can see I don't have the outer brackets.

Your frame looks like mine. I was thinking the rear of my frame had the horns cut off, but if I'm reading correctly only the 72 had horns in the rear and 69-71 did not. Anybody confirm this? I'm thinking you are missing the outer brackets that should be bolted into the empty hole in your bumper. Looks like your bumper is only connected by the center hole mounts. I'm totalling missing those brackets and they look noting like the LMC parts which look like the truck brackets.

It looks like your "gravel guards" are missing. Does it really make a difference? Obviously you don't need them to mount the bumper.

I had no idea about them. One post I read was that they were 72 only? Not sure if that's true. But I have been down many a gravel road, mountain trail, freeway, etc and don't regret not having them. I guess if my paint job were brand new, or I was going for restoration perfect to the year of my blazer, then I would want them.

You are correct, I am missing the outer bracket, but may be doing some rear bumper modifications anyway, so not sweating that. It may have helped when the previous owner backed up and jack knifed his trailer and bent up the rear quarter panel though.

One question, you say our frames are the same, but looking at the pics mine has the horns and yours doesn't (unless that isn't a pic of yours). What do you mean they are the same? Just wondering.

Upon closer inspection, you're right. I thought your "horns" were an extra bracket. Your truck must be a 72. My research shows 69-71 had no horns like my K5. Now you got me wondering about the gravel guards. Are they for only certain year models?

Finally getting around to addressing my bumper situation. Anybody have a white rear bumper for sale? As long as it's straight. I don't mind rust or character marks.

On another note, I did get my Steelies bead blasted and powder coated. I also added some new BFG ATs and dog dishes.
