Im picking up around a 1978 crew cab long bed whenever the guy decides to have me out to his place, maybe thursday. Supposed to be rust free for 300 bucks, no motor used to have a bbc though. 2wd. Motors now in his k5.

My plans are to shortbed it and use it as a tow rig, not sure if it will be 2wd or 4x4 conversion, but I want to be able to pull a gooseneck and a bumper pull type trailer. Going to do a blazer 31 gal tank conversion for sure.

Cpp offers a kit for shortbeds to have a 63-72 style truck arm rear suspension. Some people were talking about the 2600lb air bags they offer for semis that can be retrofitted into the coil spring location on the truck. Cpps brackets wont work in my application Im pretty sure, but Im wondering what thickness of material would be used to make a bracket like this work in a crew. I may try to get a coil setup off of a 67-72 3/4 ton to try to make work, but more than likely I will have to go full custom.

Ive thought about a 3 or 4 link, Maybe it would be a better solution than a truck arm style suspension.

why cant you use longbed arms in place of the shortbed arms. ? :dunno:

Longbed and shortbed arms are the same length. 3/4 tons vary because they have a reinforcement strip. The reason I don't think the cpp kit will work is because its made for a shortbed in that particular point where the frame kicks up. 67-72 are different there. Kick up is farther back I think.
