rear cv angle?

i just picked up a rear cv shaft, and my friend said that i want 0* angle at the pinion, i know with a normal rear shaft, this will make it vibrate. but he said hes been reading up on it and i want 0* at the pinion and it will work...i took his advice but then i got to thinking...my front shaft is a CV and everyone i know has an angle at their front pinion. so does anyone know for sure?
 
CV's should have the pinion pointing directly at the t-case (i.e. 0 degree operating angle at the pinion side u-joint).

The front is often not pointed directly at the t-case, there would be less vibration from that shaft if it was.
 
I've had mine pointing both higher and lower than the recommended angle, which is as Chris stated. I did not notice much of a difference in vibration either way. Right now, my pinion angle is pointing above center and I do not notice any vibration. The benefit with this setup is the pinion u-joint is up slightly out of the way of rocks.

Under heavy throttle conditions, the pinion will climb. The leaf springs will allow that to happen. Set the pinion angle 1 to 2 degrees down from the driveshaft. Vibration sometimes occurs if the pinion climbs above 0 deg. Locating the pinion too far down will also cause vibration. Every vehicle is a little different on spring rates, shaft balance, etc.

i never even thought about that, but i guess 2* couldnt hurt...ill get my friends angle finder today and see what i sit at now,then shim it to 1-2*...i hope my 8* shims arent too big.
 
so i borrowed my friends angle finder and found out my yoke is a 9* and my driveshaft is 15*,so thats 6*. i have a 5* shim on there now that came on my superlift springs. so if i replace the 5* shim with my 8* shims, it should take away 3* and ill have a 3* angle right? i think my cv will work well with that?it seems kind of obvious, but im just making sure. thanks guys

sounds about right,as long as you put it in the right way:eek1:.the pinion angle and the transfercase should be within 2 degrees of each other to stop vibes and prolong the life of your joints.

haha yes, ill be sure to shim it the right way, no need for a rocket ship pinion angle:D
 
While your in there.

Check this out. If you put on an ORD shackle flip kit, it will lower the back end of the rear springs and raise the pinion. That way the large shim can be replaced with a small one. :waytogo: The shackle flip with stock Blazer springs works great & gets around 4.5" lift.
