I have an 84 k5 with 6.2 and hydro boost put a 14 bolt rear on it with disk brakes. Do you need to swap out the proportioning valve and master cylinder to go with the disk brake swap?

I ended up having too. I put an adjustable valve in line to the front and cranked it tight closed to get the correct proportioning. I took the stock valve out and ran new lines anyways so it wasn't a big deal for mine...

I did this conversion on my 83 k3500 with hydro boost and did not switch the master cylinder or the propottioning valve. The truck stops great. I would try it without switching the valves out....you may get lucky.

When I do mine I will start with a disc/disc master and a disc/disc proportioning valve, at 6000+ lbs AND towing a trailer getting "lucky" with my brakes is not what I am shooting for.

If you just pull the rear lines off the P valve, do you have to plug the holes left on the P valve?

Thanks!

so after looking at a few disk/disk master cylinders they all have 1.125" diameter pistions and the stock master has a 30mm pistion (a little bigger then 1.125") S o i am thinking the stock master with that disk/disk prop. valve should be just fine???

You take stuff to literally.

Getting lucky is not switching the valves over and the braking system working properly.

Me, and several others have done a rear disc conversion on tow rigs without switching the valves and the brakes work great.

But.....if you would rather spend the money without seeing how the brakes work that is up to you.

I still say try it without the prop. valve.

Well the purpose of using a disk/disk master cylinder is because they use a larger piston then a disk/drum. So it seems that every master cylinder i have found that is a disk/disk has a smaller piston then the stock disk/drum. So what I have found so far is that the stock Hydro boost master cylinder use a large piston in it already that is bigger than any disk/disk ones I have found.

Not intending to threadjack, but where are you guys finding rear disc setups for 6 lug?

Swap a 14bff and disc convert. Than go get a d60front, lift it, and start again on-the-job next truck.

JK!
I don't know, but a 3/4 ton 6 bolt rotor might work with the caliper and bracket if you have some good Fab skills
