Ok, I have another question ( go figure )... :dunno:
What do you guys perfer for your rear ends? ( not a pig pen question ) Detroit Locker, Posi, E locker, or Detroit Truetrac?

Now myself, I don't plan on doing any serious crawling or the sort. Just some light to moderate wheelin in the Colorado Mountains with the fam on board.

Reason I'm asking is I want to grab them now just in case I leave in the future and my employee discount goes away. Oh ya, these are all Eaton brand diffs I'm looking at.

Thanks

Rig is your avatar? Smaller tires the e locker would win for me every single time, bigger than 38s and probably not but selectable for the win

I'm running 35s with the 12 bolt rear end and I just had 4:11s installed about a year ago. While the rear was open I had a TruTrac installed as well. I don't do any rock crawling at all. I just ride the forestry roads, pull my boat and drive around town. So far I like the TrueTrac. I know the hard core guys on here will call me a wussy! Lol! But for what I do I'm happy with my decision. Just Saturday a buddy of mine his Dad and my Dad headed up to the North Ga mountains. We were playing around on a hill and his Cj would only go about half way up. I was able to crawl up the hill in 2wd.. I know the TrueTrac is not a locker. But it does help for what I do. I do wish I would have went with 4:56s though. Not to high jack the this post but on the way home the Jeep motor developed a tick! Anyway hope this helps!

Yes, avatar is my rig. I have 33s on it right now, and will probably move to 35s in the future after a lift.

I also vote for the E locker. I had one in my 90 rear running 37's and now I have one in the front and one in the rear on my 72 running 36's. I like the ability to run open or locked at the flick of a switch.

To me having a locker is of utmost importance, even on my trail rig ( 89 Jimmy) I plan on running at least a rear locker.

Traction, no matter whether your a rock crawler or mud runner or trail rider is of tantamount importance.

I plan on switching to a SF 14b and using a factory electric locker. Because I can run open and then when its needed I can lock it in.

It can also allow to to tread more lightly in some instances because you don't have to spin the tires a lot or use momentum vs an open rig.

A LS is better than open but selectable would be the best of both

I know he is sticking with the Eaton brand but why would someone select the ARB air locker vs. the Eaton electric locker? Same concept really. Except the ARB needs a compressor too so doesn't that drive the price up even higher?!?

Hey eric, can you elaborate on this a little more, Kinda of an On topic hijack but I have also been thinking of doing a truetrac or something on my burb. If I could find what your talking about here, It may be a cheaper option for the rear. even more so if I can find lower gears than I got. Maybe the OP would be interested in the same:dunno: What years and models would be ok and do'able??

The best thing Hummer gave to us. The H2s have a factory rear locker in some models, it has an Eaton E Locker. While not super easy to find I have seen them in the 400 dollar range everytime I looked. 14b sf has no carrier break so that doesn't matter and the carrier is the same ( as are spline count) no matter 6 lug or 8 lug.

Thats the one I am talking about, its a factory equipped Eaton E locker

:thumb: I now have something else to search for. I hope theres 6 lug versions:thinking:

I'm sure I can order a set of shafts with 6 lugs. Locker is deffinately better than a truetrac. and selectable is Way better if it'll ever see ice or hardpack snow

Something else to consider is sliding a posi unit out of the junk yard into the front. D44 are plentyful, and its an easy upgrade.

Been real happy with it in my Pickup, eliminates rear axle trying to go out from under you like a non-selectable locker.
