Grenaded my rear end monday looking at one close by 85 TO 91 SUBURBAN ¾ 2500 REAR END DIFFERENTIAL

  • This originally came out of a 1990 with very low miles.
  • It has been sitting for at least 10 years or longer.
  • I don't know the gear ratio but I took these numbers that were stamped on the housing which I believe it tells you the ratio. So if anybody can tell me what these numbers mean it would be appreciated. It is HKSG2471.
  • This might fit other years but I know for sure it will not fit 92 up.will this bolt up to a 1989 k-5.Any other options or opinion are greatly appreciated.

Where in CA
I have 2 axles that came out of 3/4 ton suburbans, one is 3.73 which I think most likely yours was, and another that is 4.10 which is the second most likely.
On the slight chance that yours came with a 3.42 that was more common on 1/2 tons, I have the front 3.73 to match the rear if you want for very little.
I want $125 for the 14bsf rear and $100 for the front missing outers.
I am in Sacramento area so if you are anywhere in Norcal we can do this easy.

Best bet is to pull the cover off of yours, and get the ring/pinion numbers off the side of the ring gear. You should be able to find out the decoding by doing a search here.

Need to do the same with any axle you intend to purchase as well...both to check for serviceability and check ratio.

Yeah and since the axle is busted anyway, no need to put it back together and put gear oil in it. :D

My axles are ok the carrier and gears are shot it was 3.42 but i already have new 3.73 for it just need new posi unit. which is more expensive than this whole rear end.Im in socal but have friends in norcal and might head up that way if need to.

Well I don't know the carrier break on those but I do have a gov loc from a 4.10 equiped truck it's yours for $50 with or without the gears.
If you don't plane on running anything bigger than 35" tires it should be perfect for you.
Anyway if you or any of your friends needs to come by, PM me for a cell # that I can give you to arrange a meet

A tranny guy told me the g80 are junk. any input agree disagree i just need to get it back on the road as it is my dd.I got a good set of 3.73 for free so no 4x4 untill i get a set for the front are they the same or are there front specific gears. and any input on the rear from the burb in beginning of post.

Thanks in advance im on here all the time just dont post much as im still learning alot.

The G80 is OK on a 14bff, but it breaks the 10-bolts really fast. The 14 is just so strong that the added stresses aren't a big deal. I have one, but they will drive like an open diff on the street anyway. The gears themselves would be specific front and rear, not interchangeable. Is that what you were asking in the last post?

here are some pics.Missing about 15 ring gear teeth and 1 pinion tooth. And the tab where the bearing ridesis still in the bearing.
