Ok, so how does the rear heat system work? My lines have been cut front/rear, and i want to put a new core in, fix the lines, and try and hook the rear heat back up.

Rear air works, so blower should be good. Nothing happens when rear heat switch is flipped, im guessing someone disconnected it.

So is there a heater valve or somethign for the rear? How does it switch the blower to blow over teh heater core?

Any other tricky (expensive) parts, or jsut the core?

The rear heaters I've seen were not in the overhead with the A/C. They were down on the floor, on the pass side. That's why most get removed, because they were in the way.
If you wanted to, you could just put in a Summit or Mojave universal heater setup.

Hm. I thought that was just on the older ones. Anyone have pics of this? Guess mine isn't going back in.

Depending the climate zone where you live, you can find those big floor mounted heaters in the rear passenger compartments of full size Dodge and GM vans. Some Fords but not as prevalent. You can get these heaters for $20 or so. Basically a 14"x14" cube with a heater core and a blower motor. They work well. You can attach some ducting to them if you want the heat directed. The ones with squirrel type fans move more air vs the normal bladed fan.

Yeah, all Suburban of that body style had an electric heater that was in the way, and did a good job of heating up the cargo. Plus, you live in California, it doesn't get that cold there.

Yeah, I bought the whole rear heat setup for mine, it's new GM. I haven't put it in yet because I was afraid if it being in the way. The kids will just be cold until i decide, lol.

Hmmm, i would think a rear heat set up would be nice in the winter. mostly for defrosting the rear windows waaaaaay back there. the main heat and defrost works fine up front but doesn't really cut it in the back on really cold days or wet rainy days...

My burb has an electric rear defrost in the window, but it doesn't work for $hit. I wonder if its even hooked to the glass anymore.....should probably look.

Mine '89 had an inoperable rear heat. It was one of the first things I removed. Took up way too much space.

0the rear heat is self contain and mounts to the floor. It ha a vaccume
shut off under the hood controlled by the dash switch. I have one in my blazer as well as the roof mounted rear air. They are the bomb for heat and cooling:D:D:D
