For those of you that have made their own rear inner panels......... could you send me a detailed dimensioned drawing or CAD file so I can make some for my 82? Mine never had them so I don't have any to use as a template. Also, anybody willing to make me a nice set please let me know. There's used to be quite a few audio guys on here that made some nice ones. Thanks in advance.

Somewhere floating around on either the interior forum or just on here is a template. I made a rough one when I made mine a few years ago. Then I sent it to another member and never heard back.

Thanks! I have a buddy with a plotter and he's going to try and print them out for me. It might use alot of ink though if that is filled with grey???

What thickness of wood should I use when I make them? I know it has to be just right since it has to clear the hinges and whatnot???

****, I just chopped mine up to fit with my cage. I would have sold them. I have a cardboard template somewhere.

Yeah when I fed the full size templates through the scanner it made everything inside them grey. I've been meaning to clean up the borders and everything, just haven't had the time.

There's a fair amount of clearance for the tailgate...I was planning to use either 1/4" or 3/8" ply for my panels but without having done it I can't say for sure.

I used Home Depot's Luann or however it's spelled. Then I had it Rhino Lined. I just made the panels not go all the way to the tailgate.

I traced my old ones, wish I had something to send you. I used the luan wood and then stained, and polyed it.

That looks good, what thickness of board is that?

That's one thing I don't have in my templates...the factory screw hole locations. Since I didn't have factory panels I can put them anywhere, no big deal but it'd be nice for those replacing factory panels to have a quick reference.

I have both sides ripped out in my garage right now, and have been trying to figure out what the hell I'll use to mount new stuff to. Is that luann stuff strong? Is plywood better? Anything else better yet?

lacquered MDF is what i had.

I think it is strong enough, I have an amp mounted to the other side. I would not use anything thicker than 1/8-3/16" because the board will not follow the contours. It will need to flex a little to fit.

Luann is pretty strong and it's also more moisture resistant than MDF, plywood, and the like.

If you want to make any kind of speaker enclosure go with mdf, think it only comes in 1/2" or thicker, have never made any from luan, or whatever its called. Have an 82 also that had none when I bought, I work in a fab shop with large press brake and diamomd plate. You gave me an idea:thinking:
