My dad finally listened and will let me put a locker in his farm truck. It is a 2001 HD2500 with a 8100. What lockers are avalible and what are the installation requirements? A 14FF is easy but I am afraid this will be much harder.

How is the truck mainly used? There are a few locker choices for the AAM 11.5, this axle still has the threaded adjusters so set up should e pretty easy if you are only changing the carrier. For the best strength i would go with a Detroit

Just did a quick search on Randy's Ring and Pinion (www. ring-pinion.com) and confirmed there aren't that many choices available, and all are expensive ($900+).

The factory Gov-lock actually works pretty good in this type of situation, but don't know if I was swapping in a diff that I would go that route. The True Trac and a similar type of design that Dodge used from the factory are both good limited slips. I don't know the usage but most of the farm trucks I have been around really don't need a full locker.

It could use a lsd but I was just going locker since swapping a carrier is swapping a carrier. Dodge is the same, wonder if I can find a used dodge carrier. ARB is too much trouble and expensive and the Yuckon is the only other locker I see. A truetrac is ok but I have seen a few exploded.

The dodge diff is a good diff, it still amazes me that GM stays with the G80 and does not use the diff AAM developed for dodge

ebay says its the same lsd in both. $550 on ebay, pricing it though dodge right now. GM is $1030.

It pulls a 26,000lbs trailer most of the time.

Sounds like your dad has been right all along.

You want to put a true locker in a rig that tows heavy on a regular basis?

If it's got the G80, I'd leave it alone. If not, I'd go with the Dodge limited slip, I can pitch my 06 Mega Cab Cummins side ways if I want to, it works just fine.

I would never put a full on locker in a rear end that tows all the time.

x2, unless its a sled

It is on gravel, dirt or grass 90% of that pulling time (seed and spray). It will get stuck in the gravel ridge on a dirt road right now. Both of my trucks have lockers and I don't have a lot of problems. I don't think I need to worry about broken axles. Still the LSD is WAY cheaper and will make a huge difference. I was worried anyway that the occasional pop would scare him. He is a Accountant turned Farmer, he gets scared easy by noises.
