Rear Main - Help

Anyone feel like giving me step by step instructions on replacement? Or at least some tips? I have to be able to drive into the base shop, fix it, and drive out. I can't afford any complications. I've never even taken off an oil pan before, so I don't know what to expect.

Also, can I use this for an oil pressure guage?

I did the rear main repair in my garage on base housing. It is not that complicated, althought when I tried to take my oil pan off I had some problems. I think the PO had used liquid nails to hold that thing on there. Tooke me a while to get it off and when I did I ended up buying a new oil pan.

No you can not use that as a port for the oil pressure sender. That plug is used to drain the coolant from the block.

Are you sure there's coolant there? Being so close to the oil pan and all, it looks like it just goes into the case.

And I would do this in my garage at base housing, if I had one. Unfortunately I actually live in the dorms, with no outdoor space to call my own whatsoever. They'd nail me if I tried this in the parking lot.

i don't know what the plug is but it is entirely possible that it could be for coolant, that stuff runs all around the block.

take a bud with you, have him take his ride just in case you have to run out and get something.

Anybody have any advice as far as replacing the seal?

If you are looking for a spot for an oil pressure sending unit there are plugs on the top of the block near the distrbutor. That is the block drain plug that you have shown

Ok, the plug question is answered. So what about that seal? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif I would feel better venturing into the great unknown if I had some advice or instruntions.
